Just a simple question. For me it has a been a bit of a double edged sword. A lot of my good friends received mod status which means they don't spend as much time just posting etc. On the other hand the site has seen an influx of smurfs lately and it has gotten to the point where if these guys were not here this site would have gone down the toilet.

Secondly, Polls - I think this was the single biggest downfall of this website. Seems now ever idiot when they don't know what to do posts a poll. Moderation is a great skill which someone of you really lack. Anyways I can't come on this site sometimes without feeling like I wanna blow my brains out with a high powered rifle. The amount of junk polls has really gotten out of hand. Maybe its always been this way and I just remember it a little differently, but I doubt it.

Well now its your turn. I wanna here from the guys who have been here a while, robinhood, tha(is he still banned?), cougar, and anyone else who is old enough to remember a time before the junk drawer and stupid polls.

I've also noticed an exponential increase in useless polls and "what award/unlock" threads.
And a personal problem that I have with DST is that I have no interest whatsoever in US (or UK for that matter) politics. I know this is an American website, but there have to be other things to discuss sensibly?

I think that sometimes we need threads that just are about something random (e.g. Kyle's Apple Crumble thread) where people can just go in and post something and the thread evolves from there, kinda like a constructive derailing. Or even like CN's "Sex Buddy" thread whcih went from him boasting about his hawt chickas, to morals of underage sex and cultural diversity in a few pages.

I don't think I've ever seen anything here on DS&T that qualifies as real debate, that's why I tend to disappear for a while at a time and come back.

It is useful though when I need a punching bag and want to be an intellectual bully, or just want to get something off my chest.

It's also useful to see just how far the talking points have trickled down and how they're being interpreted by the "young and impressionable", or the "insane and impressionable".

It helps me try to remember if I was ever that young or thought like that...and then think "nyah..."

When I want real political debate I'll go to dailykos or redstate, where the opinions are less watered down and more consistent, and sometimes you can even find a redstater that uses big words and knows what they actually mean. The diary format also kicks ass compared to this thread thing...I wanted to suggest it but then it would change the whole dynamic here.
