Battlefield 2142 Server Downtime

WTF! I joined a server and everybody was private! Did they reset ranks for real? Like I was private and couldn't use unlocks. (Well if they did I haven't lost much, bought the game other day.)

Master server is down again, i hear its got something to do with this:

EA/Dice marketing representatives have announced that as of Monday, April 2nd, the Battlefield series of PC-based games, which icludes Battlefield 2 and the hugely popular Battlefield 2142 will be moved from a paid-server model to requiring players pay monthly for new accounts at GameSpy in order to continue playing the same games.

The story broke as the media were questioning GameSpy officials about the recent outage of Master Servers, which hold player information, plaguing the gaming community.

One spokesperson for the company said that it was hoped that this new scheme would help alleviate the problem of poor administration of the ranked servers that the userbase has been complaining about for years.

A Dice management official said, "We hope this doesn't inconvenience our fan base. If they'd just give up a couple of Jolt sodas or stop downloading a few iTunes songs a week they'll find that pay-for-play does have certain advantages.

"Users who pay the regular monthly fees will have the same game experience they do now. Those who pay $20 (USD) more per month will be able to utilize special new unlocks in the game. Players who wish to pay an additional fee will be able to spawn vehicles of their own choice at will on the battlefield."

Asked why they weren't moving BF1942 over to the new pay-for-play scheme, EA officials stated that they were afraid the player base were too old, and didn't want to force them to dip into their retirement funds to continue their gaming experience.
