The majority of CAL players are 22-45, work 40 hours a week, around half have wives and kids. The immaturity you see comes from the vocal forums who make fools of themselves. No one I've met Makes $ playing competitive BF2 but we do have teamwork and friendship which is why we play with each-other. Now I wont argue that some of the players at CAL may have a bit of an ego. But they can back it up. Trust me the best players in the world play in competitions such as CAL & TWL.
As to making a living playing games, no they dont believe that. But there are some nice tournaments out there & alot of companies are now fully sponsoring clans. So maybe there is something to this competition thing. Direct TV has already now aired (2) tournaments that they were apart of. One for Battlefield 2, the other for Battlefield 2142. Teams were flown in & put up in hotels, all expenses paid to play the same game they play in leagues. The winning team got $10,000 for one of the tournaments. And the other tournament was for $25,000... Someone correct me if I got the ammounts wrong. And there are tons of LAN parties they hold tournmanets sponsored by companies such as Intel, AMD, Nvidia, ATI, etc...
As to sponsors... Alot of companies are seeing the potential in competition. Sponsorships can range from free servers, to free hardware, to companies paying for their team to compete around the world at tournaments.
Now as to getswoned. The reason that site was created was for 2 reasons. Its a way for the competition community to get to know more about each other. They do articles on the players, the teams & even some of the products we use. Now they are a bit more speech friendly then CAL is. And will not delete posts or even ban people from their forums. So if you visit the site, be warned.
Now as to gaming in general. The community is split. There are the gamers that are into competition. How is playing video games online in tournaments & leagues different then things in Real Life? Say Paintball, Bowling, Darts, Softball leagues, etc... Most of the competition players are in it for the joy of competition.
Then there is the pub community. Now theres nothing wrong with pubbing. But to us competition players, we would rather play against the best players that play the game. Then pub on some random server killing the less experienced players 10,000 times just so I can gain a new rank. Hell very few competition guys even pub anymore. Competition is what keeps us playing the game. And when we do pub its on Spun & Swift's bfpro server which is always full of the best players.
Now you complained about bfpro... Have you really ever tried it or seen the changes? You say all it does is make BF2 like CS.... That couldnt be further from the truth. Bfpro balances the maps. Actualy makes the maps fun. It makes it so you dont spawn 1/2 way across the map and by the time you reach the helo its already being destroyed by the enemy helo. Lets see, as to infantry yes it does take the randomness out of the game. The cone of fire for bf2 is the worst I have seen in any game. Sorry but I prefer a game where when I shoot at someting, my bullets acutally go where I am shooting at. It also balances the classes out a bit more. There are a ton more things it does. You would have to try it for your self. Oh and I almost forgot. It was actually made by someone that plays the game. They know what we want.

I feel that guy lost respect from the community cause he showed no respect for other peoples opinions. He started a flame war based only on one persons open on activity. I personaly think thats wrong and shows that he has no character. Sorry again for the off topic.

But as to BF2.. you can make money as I stated in my first post. Team HOT won a Tournament for $25,000 & 20ID won another for $10,000. Not to mention all the other various tournaments that award prizes. But regardless we all still work for a living. We play for fun. Hell neither CAL nor TWL gives away prizes for their leagues.
Yeah, if the people you talk to aren't pompous losers competition play is very fun. Get a good clan against a good opponent and you'll have a blast. Unfortunately, just reading the CAL forums can give a very negative impression to people who prefer conversations that don't consist of

TWL is much more lay back. CAL is more reputable for the top clans.

My whole thing I hate with any time of league gaming stems from me actually trying to get into clan to play. I mean once I found one I realized most of them were 13 year old whiners that used cheats to win.(TWL) As for CAL from what I hear you guys take gaming more seriously and that turns me off. Its just how can you guys take gaming so seriously when the game was meant to be fun not job or chore.(Unless you make the games.) the whole professional gamer thing is just a big turn off. Thats why I won't even touch another clan or gaming league. This is also why I am joining the army cause I don't want to spend the rest of my life in front of a damn computer or TV...
