I personally have an original eclipse but I'm thinking about upgrading.

IBM model M keyboard. mine's from 1991 and still going strong. if you're too young to know how it feels, it's a real shame. they go for about 50 bucks on ebay.

I like my Zboard since the layout is spaced out, there is less chance of hitting the wrong key when playing.

i have both the g15 and the eclipse 2. and the eclipse 2 is better. heres why. the g15 decreased my fps in most games i used it with. (about 20-30 fps in bf2) . i have a asus a8n32-sli mobo with an amd fx-60 and 2 7900gs's and 2 gigs corsair xms 3500LL memory. so i know that its not my system. the g15 didn't really fit my hand all that well. its like thy kinda stretched the keyboard layout in length. the g 15's keys seemed more clickity clackity. and the LCD screen have very limited support. you can use LCD studio to make your own displays but i rather be gaming. the only place i saw the g 15 was better is the back lighting. its brighter then the eclipse 2's. it shows through the keys better. oh yea when you turn off the back lighting on the g 15 the keys are almost black. so you kinda have to keep the lights on all the time. i wish i had bought the g11 instead. i bought the g15 a best buy and they wouldn't return it because i wasn't happy with it only if it was broke. seeing i cant return the g15 so its off to ebay. the eclipse 2 offers 3 colors. blue red and purple. and feels better to me . its a standard keyboard layout. and most important no fps hit. all of my game controllers are saitek and Ive put them through hell and they are still kicking. my logitech game pad died in about 6 months or so. choose for yourself but thats my experience with the 2. if you do have a g15 and get a fps hit just go into your device manager and disable the hid human input device for the keyboard and it disables the LCD screen and fps comes back to normal

To me, a keyboard is a keyboard. the only ones i dont like are the ones with the curves or with the big gap in the middle. yay for the standard $5 keyboard!

but is it worth paying extra for the screen when the g11 is basically the same? (especially since it seems a lot of games dont support the screens functions and might result in a performance hit?)

No, if your not running on the min specs and have some memory and processor space for it then go for it. YOU CAN DISABLE LCD PROG'S.

imo gaming keyboards are mostly gimmick.

Honestly, show me one serious gamer who needs a backlit keyboard because he has to constantly look down to check which keys he is pressing...

I personally have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and wouldn't trade it for any 'leet gamer keyboard' on the market.

I've noticed with my current keyboard (some cheap "multimedia" keyboard) that if I press a button whilst holding down another button it won't work unless I release the button I'm holding and press it again. For example if I crouch I can't straif left (or it might be right, I can't remember ATM). Would a gaming keyboard avoid this problem?

yes. although i would think any descent keyboard would...

ive never had that problem with any keyboard, and certainly not my eclipse.

If I could buy it again i would get the G11 since I almost never use the LCD plus the keyboard is on a drawer that slides under my desk now so it gets used even less. It is an awesome keyboard but I personally don't use the LCD much & that's what I payed extra for so I'd go with the G11.

as for me, i play on some logitech multimedia keyboard or on the one integrated into my nx9420. does anyone have any experience with the Razer tarantula? seems pretty nice and i've really started to like razer

I'm willing to bet "NO", do people even read the rest of the thread anymore?

I've thought long and hard over a G15 and I don't think I can justify paying that much money for a keyboard. BF blocks the macros from a G15 so you can't use them, and although the screen is nice I just can't see when I would spend time looking at it.

I know the illumination on the G15 is very good compared to the eclipse but as stated, who spends their time looking down at the keyboard?

I've tried a Z-board, it felt so plasticy and cheap that it didn't leave the store with me. Not worth the money IMHO.
