Of course. China would be much worse than the US.

People in Europe (well, I do and most people I know do) realise exactly how bad China being in a dominant position has the potential to be. It could be fine, because China are notoriously isolationist and probably wouldn't get very involved in things far away, but I'd hate to be a neighbouring nation if China were 'on top', which they will be in 50 years time anyway.

No they couldn't. You seem to overestimate Chinas military capacity. They don't even have any carriers, which means no ability to project force over range. Their hardware is outdated and the US would respond with economic sanctions which would devastate the Chinese (and American) economy.

The communist regime in China is warped and extremely unpleasant. If they thought they could easily get away with things, they would.

Haven't read anyone else's post, but I don't think you can blame it all on the current Bush administration. Things really started going downhill with Nixon. Reagan was awesome, and Carter was alright, but aside from them, the last several presidents have been shit. This country really needs to reform. We need to start politically from ground zero again. We need to get people who can actually run this country (both Democrats and Republicans suck at running the country right now) and we need them fast.

Heh, anyone wanna have another Revolutionary War??? Let's just oust all the politicians and replace them with middle-class people of all races who actually have an idea what it's like for the average person living in this country instead of some uptight richass jerk who does politics only to get money and corrupt our country.

It bothers me. But luckily China is in no position to do so militarily. Even if the US disappeared overnight, China could easily be kept in line by Europe (who have triple the defense budget of China), Russia and Japan.

If you topple the US, China will likely take its place. I doubt it'd be in the interests of Australia to have China as the dominant world power.
