Dang, stole the words right from my mouth!  Yeah, seriously though, if you want an excellent first car, one that you can be sure of it's reliability and economic feasibility, go with a Honda Civic.  The cheapest is the basic Civic sedan, a little over $15 K, and if you want to spend a little more you can upgrade to a more luxurious model, get a coupe instead of a sedan, or if you have ~ $22 K you can get a sporty Civic, aka Civic Si, as either a coupe or sedan.  On a side note, I personally have had my eye on the Civic Si Sedan for a long time now, since it was a concept!  Nonetheless, check out Honda's site:

http://automobiles.honda.com/

(And just because I want one, link and a pic of Civic Si Sedan)

Obviously this kid can't buy a new Civic Si or anything over $2000...But do you got $3000 maybe?

Ok kid,

Let me give you my advice on a car. First like others have said you don't want one that is in perfect condition, because being a first car, it'll most likely get trashed with beer cans, get scratched by others at school, get dented up at the mall, or downtown...So, find one that is used!

Secondly, you live in Canada. Wouldn't you prefer a car that is All-Wheel Drive? My #1 recommendation for this is an AUDI. Buy an Audi if you have harsh winters (I know global warming is probably effecting you as well...) But either way, an Audi is SUPER fun on dirt roads, gravel roads, ice and on snow! (Now I'm not saying you should go out racing with your first car!)

Another thing, you will want to learn to drive a 5-speed manual. Every man needs to know how. So get to it!

If you are not familiar with Audi's I'll give you my top picks for your price range:

1985-1987 Audi 4000s Quattro range : $800-2500 (for beater to super nice)

(They were mostly 5-speeds, which is a plus) I personally own an 1984 4000 (Don't recommend '84, because they are more expensive parts) it has 185,000 miles on it, and still runs. Whoever posted above saying anything with 100,000 plus will need work...Doesn't know Foreign (German, Japanese) cars (Or trust them)

1987?-1995 Audi 80 Quattro $800-1500

1988-1995 Audi 90 Quattro  $1000-3500

1989-1993 Audi 100 Quattro $1200-4000

1994-1997 Audi A6 Quattro  $2500-6000

Here is a VERY NICE example of an Audi 90. It is a 1991 Quattro (All-Wheel-Drive) and a 5-speed with only a 114,000 miles! I personally want this car, but have a nice one already =P Contact them and ask what they want, I would say since its a dealer, with low miles, and a 20v with all the options...I'm guessing $3500.

Clicky Here for the AUDI 90!

---------------

So thats it for Audi's there are various models through out the 80's, (5000, V8, 200, ) but they aren't as nice, do research on craigslist for them. I will see if I can find photos of some for you.

I would also recommend a honda civic. Buy one from the 80's like an 86-90, they are smaller, and lighter, and better gas milage then the mid 90's I think.

Good luck. And go out, test drive one tomorrow!

definitely thinking about the Audi 4000s,and the 93" 100, only problems are, learning manual and finding a dealer or seller in t.o I've been looking and not many people see to be selling them, i wont need all wheel drive cause ill never will go offroading ( in know its fun but i would have to travel out of my way to do it) and everything near me is paved, but other then that it looks like a really nice set of wheels now i just gotta look for on in good condition and in my or near my price range

Out of all that of which you posted, only the above two things popped out at me, besides a bunch of audi sh*t.
I agree though, you probably will be wanting a used car as a first car generally is one you learn of what not to do with a new car with, and as you are in Canada, you might want AWD/4WD as Im_Dooomed suggested.  But out of his entire post, I couldn't agree more with him in that you WILL want to learn to drive a manual, whether or not it's a 5-speed.  Chicks dig it, and it doesn't limit your buying selection to automatics, because there are a lot of good cars out there that are manual, so yes, "get to it" and learn to drive manual!  You won't regret it!

well knowing just automatic is not limiting, essentially all cars come in automatic.
if you're looking for JUST manual, then that's a real problem.

i remember when i was looking for a manual car from craigslist, it was relatively difficult.

Good luck searching for a new Audi Robbie The 4000's are my top pick man because they are cheap as hell and you get unrelenting Audi durability along with all-wheel-drive traction for the worst storms. Commando it appears has a thing against Audi's xP but don't let that discourage you. I would help you find a car, but I don't know how to search in Canada...ALthough I can help you out with Chicago and Detroit areas...

HOLY HELL! YOU got $4495? This is Perfect!

Audi A6 for $4200  <---Buy this one! I love that color

Audi 100 for $1500

Turbo Quattro for $800!

1993 Audi 90 5-speed $3550!

Audi 5000 Turbo 5-speed $500!!

Well that is all I found for now, hope it helps. I didn't even begin to search on these sites, but I recommend you do:

www.automotive.com

www.cars.com

www.motors.ebay.com

www.autotrader.com

I hope all this helps, I spend a long time searching for another Audi for myself, but found the only one I want in Colorado Springs, CO, and its so damn nice. But don't have the $$ resources to buy it

Well good luck, again.

It can be new, or used i really don't care just as long as it runs, i could put money/work into it as i go along i don't mind i kinda actually wanna do that(i find it fun), anyways if anyone knows of any good offers on ebay or w/e link it to me, I'm more then interested, so remember around 2000$ and if it matters in in the Toronto Canada areas (just in case the car can't be brought to another country or something_

Can't you just go to Chicago on a fairy ride across the lakes? That one is a nice choice, Black but i'm not sure if its all-wheel-drive, I believe the 90 'cs' version is....But like you said you don't really need awd....Call the guy, or ask your parents to call, and see if this guy will come down on the price because your from Toronto, and if he has any resources/recommendations on how to get it to you.
