Im going to give up smoking soon.  I gave up smoking weed last Sept, the 12th to be exact and found it easy peeasy, this after 16 years.  I did have some over Crimbo but that was always the plan and a reward to myself.  I was never strong enough before and was to scraed as to what might happen.??? Yeah, strange I agree.  The worst I thought  would happen was I'd never be able to get to sleep, thats complete and utter bollocks.  I get to sleep as easy as I used to before I started smoking the ganj.

So next will be my 2nd attempt at giving up smoking cigarettes.  Please dont close this post because I have written 2ND ATTEMPT, the reason I failed 8 years ago was after 6 months my Mum had giving up on quitting and had secretley been smoking behind my back whilst I had kept my discipline up.  I had stopped almost instantly and hadnt craved once in 6 months, then when I saw my Mum spark one up I gave in there and then.  I can almost cry about it now unfortunatly my Mum died from the effects of smoking in Sept 05.

The reason I have waited until now was to purchase a book which will help me.  I have read the book before but to my stupidity lent the book out to someone else, the book warns me never to do this.  I never got the book back and didnt have it when I gave in.  It was really easy using the book and the author, the book and his clinics have a 90% sucess rate in curing you from your addiction.

THE BOOK

Unfortunatly the author DR ALLEN CARR passed away late last year due to the effects of smoking.  He had been a non smoker for approx 25 years.

http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=55092

So far I have read the very first bit of the introduction and I am still smoking, the book dosent request you stop smoking before you start reading it simply happens whilst you are reading through the book, this is exactly how it happened before.  3 of us gave up before using the book, my Bro in law hasn't had a smoke since all those years ago.

From what I remember the book explains how the addiction isnt that bad (ie has anyone ever woken up due to the need to have a fag?, no), it dosent stress you out as more blood passes through your veins,  things don't happen quicker (ie you spark up at traffic lights).  In general the book just takes away the fears you may have from quitting.  You won't be missing out if you dont have a fag you'll be the one gaining infact.

The one thing I can add is unless you want to stop, dont try and stop.

It would be great to have other members who have decided to stop and maybe we can help each other.  Ive started by showing you which book to buy and it'll be the best £8.99 / $17 you will ever spend, it may even save your life.  It'll be a lot better value than them sticky patches or silly smelly gun you can buy.

Good Luck to anyone who is join my No Smoking Club and to those that may cheat your only cheating yourself.

Because I enjoyed the head rush weed was giving me in the evenings at home and obviously you can't get away with that kind of thing in work, well at least not mine.  Soon after though normal cig's dont give you anywhere near as much as a rush and soon stops completley.  You also kid youself with, "Oh i'll quit soon im only young".  I was 16 at the time.

Good luck to you sir.  It's not an easy road, but it's traversable.

Never took you for a quitter man.

Seriously though, good luck with it. I am fortunate never to have started but have seen plenty of people affected by it. Good idea to get others on board as peer pressure can help quit just as easy as it gets most people started.

BTW, I hope you meant "silly smelly gum you can buy" and not "silly smelly gun you can buy" or your problems may be bigger than just smoking.

Damn Damn, Strawberry jam!!

I triple checked for spelling before hitting submit but yet again I have fucked up with my spelling.  I'm a sign maker by trade and fortunately my spelling mistakes don't seem to effect me in my work.

I'll have to introduce you to a thread I started a while back titled "Grils in Uniforms" as you can imagine we had some lovely BB Q's appear.

I believe anybody can achieve anything and I don't like the words "I can't", soon I will be someone who used to smoke 20 a day but I fear I will always be someone who can't spell, it comes with the profession.

BTW I'm not quitting for my Mum I'm quitting because I want to, for Me, my Daughter and all who know me and want to know me a lot longer.  I hope others post here saying they want to quit as well and perhaps we can say to each other in a few months, "Thanks for helping".  I would love to be able to help at least 1 other person here as I have received lots of help on Hardware/software advice and I don't see myself being in a position to offer help back in those fields.  Some may see this as the blind leading the blind and I can fully see why.

I remember reading Allen Carr's Obituary in the paper.
Pot is easier to give up than Cigarettes because it is less addictive. Good luck to you.

Tobacco, that stuffs disgusting, tastes like shit makes me feel like shit, can't normally have one puff without feeling like im dying...weed on the other hand

I had the experience of trying herbal (fruit; apple & cinnamon) tobacco through a hookah recently, I have to say it was a very pleasent and relaxing experience, didn't make me cough once.

But enough rambling, +1 for going down the no smoking path

Sorry to hear about your loss dude, i wish you all the luck in the world in your efforts.  Remember, be strong and never give in, no matter what.  Im sure that book gives you great ways of helping yourself resist the temptation to light up again, so just remember all the bad smoking can do, to you and others.

fyi, i've never smoked, have tried it on the odd night out, but never liked it really.  I am a recreational drug user in that i'll have the odd joint here and there with the lads n afew beers, but thats as far as smoking goes with me.

All the best mate.

Its funny you say that, especially "never liked it really".  I have smoked all this time but can also say I "never really liked it", everyone in the world will agree, smoker or non smoker.  The ones who disagree ie, smokers, will be kidding us and themselves that they actually enjoy the foul taste and what it is doing to them and how it makes them smell.

I havent really really wanted one all day as the book shows you how you arn't actually giving anything up instead your gaining and its not me who is missing out by not having a ciggy its the smoker himself who misses out.

Enough of beating that drum for now.

I'd love more of you to sign up (if there was such a thing) and join me aswell.

PS, IT'S PRETTY EASY REALLY

Cheers Doc,

Im gonna batter this so easily,

It's the lil un's last Christmas present  and whilst she knows the importatance of her ol man quitting smoking as a gift (in some terms) I know deep down she prefers her shiney Barbie bike that Santa dropped off.

I got the same mentality as when I quit the weed, just dont buy/smoke/ set fucking fire to it and you'll be fine.

Im not chewing "nicogum" and Im not trying to roll and ignite them patch things.  Be ironic if I burned my house down whilst trying to get a patch to light eh?

I've watched multiple people die of lung cancer because of cigarettes.

Please stop ... for your sake.  We all die, but to die of lung cancer is a horrible way to go.  I think this is the reason why most doctors STRONGLY encourage you to quit.

I don't see how cigs could give you any kind of rush. It's just 4000+ chemicals coming into your body, and I don't even wanna know what it tastes like.
