Same mouse, different skin. I have it, I love it. Being able to switch DPI levels gives me an advantage.
Normal infantry play > 1100 DPI, Tank > 2000 DPI.

I agree, I have a G5 and it owns ass. The skin is not only unneccesary, it's stupid looking.

Gah....why can't the G5/G7 have two thumb buttons? I'm still going to buy one of them, but it bugs the hell out of me that Logitech decided to take one step forward, two steps back when they designed these.

It may happen that you're a victim of marketing. There is a difference of course, but AFAIK it is over-hyped.

I was using Logitech MX1000 before (laser), now I'm on MX518 (optical). To me it seems that MX518 is better.

depends on how you use your mouse. i often play on the road or at university and i dont feel like carrying a mouse pad with me always. while i can still play on shiny or even glass with my G5 (normal skin), it would be impossible to do that with an optical mouse (yeah, i tried and failed horribly)

Used to have Razer Boomslang several years ago - it was a really great mouse, albeit mechanical.
