Note, this article was in Sept... tech has obviously changed over the last few months.

Just my Powersupply and Chipset/Mobo after Christmas. 500 might be a bit low for me.. .[TUF]Whiskey_Oktober wrote:

are you thinking of upgrading kmar? could i get your current system for, say, $500?
and there was some rant here about brand loyalty and how you should buy a product on how well it works not who makes it, but it was too long and confusing. hence previous sentence.
I know[TUF]Whiskey_Oktober wrote:

but i did get a steal on the system i have now...bought 2/3 of it used for 350...got a 1000 computer (according to newegg) for around 500 total. no luck for this next build though.
Well it isn't easy to see yet unless you make guesses, but more than likelycyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

Hmm...
2x PCP&C 1 Kilowatt PSU
AMD FX-74 on phase change cooling, with an insane overclock
Dunno on the motherboard, just something really stable (probably DFI or something)
2x 150GB Raptor X hard-drives in RAID 0
4x Seagate Barracuda 500GB hard-drives in RAID 0+1
2x ATi R600 in CF
4GB ub3r fast RAM
One of them Soundblaster X-Fi dealies
Some 7.1 Surround Sound system
2x 42" HDTV
Custom built acrylic case, with tons of lights
3x good-quality DVD burners
Saitek X-52 joystick
Logitech G7 or MX1000 mouse
Logitech G15 keyboard
Well, that's all I can think of. That would indeed be my dream computer. All that is well over $10,000.
Have you seen the power consumption by the 4X4? Hell, it's got worst price/performance and wattage/performance ratios. Core 2 Quad is around the same benchmark levels though.A-Unit64 wrote:

Um AM3 is a socket. Didn't you say AMD FX-74 anyways?CrazeD wrote:
That's alright, AM3 will own C2D.
They don't use one. They run a large scale parallel processing network. Google have some pretty fancy hardware as well.I_invented_BF2 wrote:

I don't know if anyone's brought this up yet, but the 680i seems to be afflicted with an issue that corrupts data in SATA drives. nVidia says it's a driver error, and that they're working to fix it.Des.Kmal wrote:

It's fixed. They took care of it in a bios update. All the top publishers have resumed recommending it again..lolunnamednewbie13 wrote:

As for AMD, thumbs down until they release something that can realistically compete with Intel. "In the works" doesn't count.
Nice but I would expect a third drive. 300 not enough .
