the japs are a master at teaching about ww2. why not just gloss over the whole period and explain in some vague fashion japan's "right" to "liberate" Asia. /sarcasm

I don't know, but suspect, that they teach it all with all the gory details.
I know a good few Germans and live with an Austrian - they go 110% on the shame and gore of the holocaust in history class. They organise holocaust survivors and the jewish community to lecture the children and even bring them at least once to one of the major death camps (Auschwitz, Belsen, Dachau, etc.) to drum the shame of it into them. AFAIK.

On a similar note: Do they teach what the Brits did to Ireland in England (and to what extent) and do they teach the likes of the Sand Creek Massacre and other Native American tragedies in the US curriculum?

yes. I live in Oklahoma and our schools do have Native American studies. In my highschool it was a required curriculum.CameronPoe wrote:

No, but then again speaking for myself here, I have better things to learn in school that about how we raped and pillaged the Irish. Yes I know we weren't too friendly, and it's horribly sad; I know a little about it, but quite frankly school is there to give you a good basis of the main important points in history, and give you an understanding of how these situations arouse.CameronPoe wrote:

I certainly wasn't taught anything about the Brits oppressing the Irish.

To give you any indication, its illegal in Germany to deny the Holocaust. They're pretty serious about that.
And yeah, I will agree the Japanese are pretty good at glossing over WWII.... Except of course for Hiroshima.

O god yes, a lot more then they do in the US. They started the two world wars, probably trying to educate the kids so they don't start the third.
