it seems like topics get closed on a whim of the mod on duty. i can understand when you've got 248723 topics of the same thing on page one. but sometimes you've just got a little fun topic and a mod pops in and says "that's enough" and closes it. it just seems like there's a little too much censorship on the boards, and sometimes it looks like it's a little unfair and unjustified.

agree or disagree, discuss.

Usually "a little fun topic" ends in a Flame war before a mod closes it..

agreed there was a thread where a guy posted naked pictures of men on this site a while back and it was up for hours before a mod took care of it (cause i reported it and other may have too) but when i posted on how annoying germans are on bf2 it was closed with in 2min. I guess the mods are gay.

Yeah, but let's be honest, ANY topic can and will turn into a flame war. You can't close a topic because something might turn into a flame war. And even so, delete/edit out the offending posts, don't close the thread.

Thats not what i mean, I mean that the post is already a Flame war..

And its hard to delete/edit out all of the offending post, its just easier and less time consuming for them to close it.

No, I know what you meant about when the topic is a lost cause, but sometimes you see topics closed before anything bad has happened in it. It seems like some topics get closed because "they don't add anything to the forum," but if that's the case, take out the whole "junk drawer" section because that's a void of anything useful.

The mods do a great job when shit is out of hand, it's just that sometimes they are too proactive.

I would much much rather them actually delete the thread - I hate seeing some stuff I want to comment on being locked

Man, I havent had a good flame war in ages, they always get locked!

Might suggest read rules.
Descriptive thread title is key, as is search.

Other than that unless its obviously inappropriate your good.

I start a hell of a lot of threads and virtually  none get closed.

You just got to know how to avoid trouble.

Oh I forgot;
Post in the right place. This should be in this area http://forums.bf2s.com/viewforum.php?id=12    , if it was going to get posted at all.

I'd suggest deleting this thread before a mod does see it as it will surely get closed and you'll have them keeping an eye out for other, similar kinds of bad threads.

disagree, mods close things for a reason and it is usually justified

A moderator can close a thread for any reason, and many times the mod will post in the thread explaining why he closed it (most often it is because the thread is pointless, it is a duplicate, the posts no longer contribute to the original subject, the question has been answered, or it has degenerated into a flame-war).

If the explanation needs expansion, or if you are unclear, you can always PM the mod to ask for an explanation.

Some more info:
1)  Mods will sometimes delete a series of offensive posts that led up to the closure ... so you may not have all the information
2)  The OP sometimes requests that their thread be closed, and I think we always honor that request ...

I re-opened the topic after reading a message from the OP. If this does turn into some sort of Mod 'bashing', I will not hesitate in closing it for good.

Personally, I think that mods should be required to make a post at the end which clearly outlines why they closed it, no matter how obvious they think it might be.  There are a few times when I've wanted to ask why a thread was closed, and couldn't because I didn't know who closed it.

i think that is a good idea even if they just post a line or two to explain it

personally, I don't see the problem wiht mods closing topics where they are inappropiate, but a message saying what happened ( as in, x was flamed causing a flame war, i.e. not naming the person who caused the flame war to avoid revenge flaming)  or  that the OP wanted the topic closed would be nice just so people know why the thing was closed.

It does suck here sometimes judging by some of the threads that I've read.  Some of you guys get a little too into internet arguing and I can see why the mods want that under control.  but ... this is still better than places like Fark.com, I got a 3 day ban there just for asking why a thread was being deleted.  Needless to say I don't ever post there or check the site anymore really.

Best forum on the internets is the ytmnd forums.  No mods (well there is one now), people post whatever they want and no one takes it seriously.

I got a ban without a warning for posting a pic of a dead man whose head was blown open and his brains were spread out on the ground around him, it was illustrating what a .50 cal barrett round did.  I didn't bother asking why, it was a fair call, but a simple deletion and warning would have been fine.

Also, there's other graphic pics on this forum and porn that isn't deleted, so mods surely don't treat every post equally.  Something to keep in mind when judging mods...you have no freedom of speech, and you must post wisely.
