OMFG !!!!
Thiks is like the umteenth time Microsoft is asking us to QUADRUPLE our memory size AGAIN....
In case anyone wonders,
XP needs around 512MB (a quater of the 2 GB vista apparently needs)
windows NT/98/2000 needs around 64/128 MB of mem
Windows 95 could run on 16-32 MB !
Windows 3.11 could run on 4 MB
MS-DOS could run on 1 MB !!!!!!!!
When MS windows 3.11 was released, it was like 11 1.44 disks, or something like that. When unpacking/installing it took up almost 30-40 MB of diskspace, and robbed you of a couple of MB of mem. you'd pretty much need 4 MB to make things run smoothly, as 1-2 MB would just be eaten by windows itself.
What I did (along with some friends), was to code our OWN fucking windows. We managed to fit ours onto a SINGLE 1.44 disk. Installed it took up about 4-5 MB of space, it would run on a single MB of memory, and never even TOUCH your base 640 KB (well, except for the pointer to the extended memory). And our version CRASHED less, it was faster, and it had no problems with 32 bit once that started emerging. All windows programs we tested ran FINE on our version.
IMO that shows microsoft are pretty damed shitty programmers, and their project managers dont know SHIT about programming and computers. And this time around they've even had a couple of extra YEARS for testing !
I'll NOT be buying that FILTH if I can avoid it !
Linux FTW !
