Don't ask me why im sharing this here. I remember, a long time ago when i was active on this forum, back in bf2s' prime, i thought to myself some day im going to have to experience the loss of the best pal i've ever had, and that i will make a memorial thread on bf2s for her... well, 5 years later, thats today.

My best friend went to sleep today.
Here's to Newt, for 16 years, 7 months and 7 days she graced the earth with her loving presence. Goodbye old friend...

My condolences Mitch. I lost my dog Jazz at the end of August last year, hurt like Hell. My grandfather died a week or so later so I feel I never really got the chance to mourn her. If I'm being completely honest I felt the loss of my dog far more than the loss of my grandfather.

Making the decision to put a friend to sleep is one of the hardest decisions there is. I still keep wondering if I picked the right time. Jazz could have lasted longer, no question. We we're heading out of winter so she would have had it easier. And she would have still got enjoyment out of life. Thing is you're either too early or you're too late and I would have absolutely hated to see her suffer, I have heard absolute horror stories. What you did was the kindest thing you could possibly have done.

Again, my sincere condolences Mitch. To you as well j5689.

e: I think I've had so many pets come and go that I've been galvanized against their loss (thanks a lot, leukemia). Still, it has a bit more impact than your cell phone getting run over by a truck...something that would likely be disputed by some forum members here. One of my favorite dogs was a black lab that pulled me around on my skateboard as a kid. Including up hills. Only problem was that she didn't like other dogs too much and was racist against black people.
