How would you feel as Americans and Canadians about a NAU of Mexico, the U.S., and Canada similar or based off of the EU. The argument in favor is that the economies of all three nations would benefit from an this arrangement.

The U.S. is already the largest single economy in the world and has 90% of the GDP of the EU. Mexico has a manufacturing base larger than all of South America combined and quality of life is quickly coming in line with Americans. They are also posting 6% annual GDP growth. Canada has a ton of untapped resources that can be exploited.

The argument against is that each country will have to give up their sovergnity a little bit to get it all to work out. There is also the fear among Mexicans and Canadians that America will dominate both countries politically in the union. There is also a reluctance among many Americans to be in an arrangement that forces the U.S. to care about the economies and people of Mexico and Canada when we should, in their eyes, be moving towards a more individualistic society and economy.

So how would you feel about this.

Isn't that already the case, regardless of the existence of a Union?

How do you feel about a North American Union similar to the EU?
If it would work, I'd be all for it. But I wonder, would it include Central America or the Caribbean?

I don't believe the AU would readily abandon established currencies like the US or Canadian dollar. But if they do, there are a ton of opportunities for artistic redesign. Landmarks, explorers, influential leaders, scientists...that sort of thing. I'd be more than happy to see the hoodoo designs on the American dollar go by the wayside.

That also means free travel between all three countries and the US probably having to get (physically) involved in the mexican mafia wars. Ya I'd say it wouldn't go over very well.

I also don't see the point. There is no real incentive for you to join in a union, not like there is for the individual EU countries.

“The [Canadian] Government proposes to implement a “bail-in” regime for systemically important banks. This regime will be designed to ensure that, in the unlikely event that a systemically important bank depletes its capital, the bank can be recapitalized and returned to viability through the very rapid conversion of certain bank liabilities into regulatory capital. This will reduce risks for taxpayers. The Government will consult stakeholders on how best to implement a bail-in regime in Canada. Implementation timelines will allow for a smooth transition for affected institutions, investors and other market participants. Systemically important banks will continue to be subject to existing risk management requirements, including enhanced supervision and recovery and resolution plans.
This risk management framework will limit the unfair advantage that could be gained by Canada’s systemically important banks through the mistaken belief by investors and other market participants that these institutions are ‘too big to fail’.”

No thanks.

I could see it happening. I don't see how the usual group of complainers can criticize free trade though it wouldn't surprise me if they start to scream about it taking American jobs or giving up our economy to the Euros or joining a sinking ship.

The free market is only OK if 'Libertarians' are benefiting from it.

Otherwise it suddenly becomes socialism.

Market wise, I don't think it's a terrible thing.  The issue, to me, is how do you govern 3 nations, with different legal and philosophical histories?  I don't think it would be a government that fit the people very well.
