Go on vacation to Mexico.  Travel north to the Rio Grande.  Cross the river.  We have a job for you.

Just kidding.  Immigration is pretty easy...apply for visa status and put in your time.

I would add some advice - get a good immigration lawyer.  They'll do most of the work for you and are worth the $$$$.

meh...

Most immigration lawyers cost about 2 grand.  Thats what they run around the midwest.  That doesn't include your fees you have to pay.  Which in a marriage immigration situation is about $1800.  So your looking at a lot of money with a lawyer.  The paperwork is easy to fill out and they give you all the places you need to send it to also.  So i'd save your money.

We had a lawyer but decided he was too incompetent because it was a cheaper lawyer because im 22 and in college and live on my own.  And it was gonna be about $600 for that guy.  But he was an idiot.  My wife did all the paperwork and took care of everything and we ended up fine.  She has her liscense, SS number, work permit, and her Permanent Residency Card (green card). Alll lawyer free and is completely legal.  Took about 12 months.

Legal advice for free is your best bet.  Just so you know all the forms you need.

Every Norweign I've talked to are stupid as hell. They think they know everything and world owes them a living and they can never get anything done. STFU Norweign, black metal loving douchebag before I call another crusade on your gay ass country. kthx

You sure are acting like one. If you know so much about immigration, why didn’t you just help the guy instead of flaming him with that question:  “What the hell are you asking this here for?”. Damn dude, get a grip…

Take a one way plane ticket to Mexico.  Pay a gringo $100 to get you across the border, hang out in the US for a couple years and then demand they make you a US Citizen.  Millions of illegals are trying that now.

Ok first off  sorry that I couldn't reply back earlier here and thanks for all the info.

@demondspawn, basically you're right this might not 100% be the right place to ask such stuff, but I've been here for quite a while and I noticed that there ARE many people who know their stuff especially about laws and the like, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Ok so the Mexico idea is kinda... disqualified X-D

Marrying a U.S. gal... well... eventually that is part of the plan as I want to stay there until I die... but it shouldn't be a pass to the U.S. if you know what I mean.

Having some education they lack... well... uhm... wait... what do I have... internet and multimedia technology 'highschool'? (in Austria we have some schools that are like high schools but with some technical extras). Project Management? Stuff like that seems to exist in the U.S. pretty much aswell...

I've heard the thing with the immigration lawyer is pretty promising if you have the $$...

Can I also get a work permit if I have only a Visa and not a Green Card? I mean is it even likely that someone will employ me there if I am not having a Green Card?

What about applying for citizenship like stryker said? What's the difference between that and a Green Card?

Here's some of my experience (I live in Washington which is at least 50% full of people from other countries).

(1)  The "marrying an American girl" used to work, but they have changed the rules in the last few years to close abuse.   I know of one couple that was married, and the spouse was shipped out the next week back to her native country ... a year later she is still there.

(2)  Many foreign nationals begin their time in America by first getting a student visa, and then studying a field that is in high demand in America (e.g. Nursing ... but not Attorney) in order to argue a case for staying.

(3)  Most people I know begin the process of citizenship by participating in the State Department lottery.  Each country receives a number of immigration "slots" that are distributed among people who apply ... I have some friends from Moldova who got into the US this way.  But, today, Moldova will have something like 30,000 applicants for 150 slots.

(4)  From what people have told me, the immigration lawyers are a waste of money.  They make big promises, but can't deliver anything more than you could if you just spent some time reading websites and following directions.

1. wasn't really the direct plan anyway, but good to know

2. yeah I've also thought about studying in the U.S. for a while, but probably not nursing

3. the lottery... hmm maybe I have good chances there because most Austrians hate the U.S. (because it seems to be 'in' to hate the U.S. here y'know)

4.ok... I'm starting to believe that too now, that might save me some money.

thanks

Dude if only BF2 playtime as USMC would count...

Here's a link for you on the lottery winners for 2007 .... looks like it was 74 people from Austria.

But maybe we'd get like a hundred slots and only a few are used... like Andorra... 0... I don't think they get no slots, I think they just don't want to move away...

Perhaps ... anyway, that page should familiarize you a little with the lottery and help you to begin the process.  It looks like the application process for 2008 will begin in a month or so.
