We've known this was going to happen for years. But today it became official.
Good bye to the F-14 one of the coolest planes I have ever seen and one that many of us grew up wishing that one day we could fly.

I think I know how all these F-14 Pilots must feel now. An excellent Airplane retired after 36 years of Service that's hard.
I served on a modified Charles F. Adams-class Destroyer in the German Navy. It was the first and the last of its kind in the German Navy serving for almost 35 years. When it was retired, its Crew (incl. me) were like OMG WTF!?!?!

Only place you will see now is at air shows as a classic historical plane. I'm sure the rest will find homes either in 2nd or 3rd world countries that buy the surplus from us or they will be used as unmanned drones in missle tests for the new upcoming aircraft of the future like the F-22 and the F-35 and of course anything else that will come out after them.

Remember how the F-4 Phantom met it's end and is now used in testing... the same path goes for the F-14.

It's a sad day indeed. I was actually depressed reading that article.

The F-4 Phantom 2 made me want to join the navy and fly jets, untill it was retired, then the F-14 made me feel the same passion about flying.. then i found out about needing to go to college for 4 years and become an officer, so I join the Marines...

I hate it when things are retired. Like the M60 LMG, M60MBT, F4, F14, A10(soon), A1, B52 is getting reduced in numbers. Damn, makes me sad. I want to keep all this kick ass stuff.

Man does that officially suck! The days of the swing wing seem to be finished. The F-14 was truly an American icon, and a symbol of America's power around the world. With the death of the F-14 also comes the death of one of the baddest defense weapons of all time, the Phoenix missile. 15 ft long, self contained radar, and a 100 mile range, it's no wonder that everybody feared the Tomcat.

God phuking dam it, those bastards!! I love that jet. It was big, yet had incredible speed and agility for its sidze. Could carry many variatioins of missles and bombs, it was one of themost balanced jets in history.

Plus that game tomcat alley for sega cd ruled

I remember there used to be an old game on the computer called "F-14 Tomcat" And I'd play it when my dad was at work, and it' pwned in DC...*sigh* I'll miss it.
