I've seen a bit of American pride lately, nothin' wrong with that... but when i saw "You'll bitches to America" on another thread i started to think about that.

With 2 hundred thousand troops over seas, the U.S government was talking about making service to the military a requirement due to shortages. feels like the U.S has lost their power if they need to start forcing their own people to war.

China has millions of troops, they have nukes and hi tech jets as well (so hi tech we don't know about them)... when (Not If) China starts using their power to "reclaim" lost territory, will the U.S be willing or able to stop them? This kinda has meaning for me as I'm an Australian living so close to China.

F-22 info all over the net, little to nothing about all of China's tech.

Remember that 1 Asian kid in high school that made us all look like tards, try fighting millions of them.

Obesity is a big problem thats only getting bigger in the U.S, not a problem at all in China.

not ever terrorist have the stones to attack China, American "HomeGrown Terrorist" plan to attack their own country.

in the next big war.... who will win??

true but energy demands aroudn the world are growing. China is consuming too much water as it is and if it wants to be a superpower it needs to learn to support itselfs on its own resources b/c i'm not seeing much for the future. Pretty soon Isaac Asimov's science fiction tales will come true

China is still developing though, whilst it may be advanced in the aspect of warfare, its technologies for infrastructure etc. just arent up to scratch with most of the world. Im guessing they're going to work on that sooon enough, and being the size they are, desalination plants etc. should also not be problematic.

I really want to see how China turns out it's the one country that has me truly intrigued.

There are somethings that the US Armed Forces have that we have not even heard of yet.  The reason that most of the US weapons are known is because we create a lot of them with other nations, like the UK.  Remember that the U2 was not known for about 10 years.  Also, the F117 was not known for about 10 years also.

From the research that I did, it was not much, China makes everyone that may potentially join a univeristy has to take military training.  This would make their numbers larger then the standing US Armed Forces.  The US Army is 1.4 million strong, and the PLA is only 2.25 million strong.  The US is ranked second, behind China, as having the most active troops in the military.

You should also take in consideration on how many battle tested soliders each army has.  China has not had a major war since 1979 (which only lasted one month and was backed by the US), they did have border skirmishes with Vietnam in 1986 and 88.  The US has been fighting a two front war since 2003.

Another thing, just as if China attacked the Aussies, all of their allies will help in the fight.  This would be the same with the US if China attacked.  I am for sure that the UK, and Aussies would help us out if China tried to attack the US.

PS: I do not know what Asian kid you are talking about, if anyone knows about it can you all explain more.

The Chinese military, for some reason or another, performs poorly in military action (past, but not ancient past)  - perhaps that's changed, but they're still not up to level man-for-man.  Think of BF2 - it's easier to bomb a group of ten than it is a group of 2.   Their incursion into Vietnam, for example, lost 20-50 thousand.  This is not to take into account other variables, so don't go mention them.   (They were there under a year, I believe).         All in all, this'll be a fun topic, but I don't think it should be taken too seriously. Too variable.

Oh, yeah... about that Asian kid... the Japanese space program isn't all that successful (think PROBES here) - Ditto with China - going into space is null; it's the technology that drives you.

Simply a stereotype - how does it apply to realworld?  dunno

LOL, not just American pride!  I've noticed a lot of pride on these boards from several fronts, and the top two that I see the most is American and British.  Anyways, I haven't found the other thread you're talking about.

Honestly, it's all about politics.  Years back, the US had many more troops than our current number.  However, with the threat of war typically distant back then, and a higher concern with the "cold war", a lot of military budget cuts were implemented to reduce the number of soldiers when the cold war more or less ended, and quite likely devoted to higher technological advancements in military equipment.

However, since 9-11, recruitment for the military has definitely increased, and I know some volunteers were actually turned away (usually medical reasons).  Enough to suffice?  Depends.  I'm sure if there was a need to make service in the military a requirement, it'd probably have be done already.  It's been a topic of debate since the first war in Iraq, and it hasn't changed to my knowledge.  Don't get me wrong, but if it had to go to that extreme, it'd probably be done.

To my knowledge, China and the US are concerned about each others military capability, but both are also concerned with their own well-being enough to realize that not just any small reason for war is in their best interests.

Also, much of China's technology is based on Russian technology.  I do not doubt that there is secretive technology that China wants to keep secret, however, the US having secretive technology is gonna be without a doubt, as well.

Aust1mh wrote:

Finding information on the internet for the F-22 is not typically gonna result in "how the technology" works, or how it can be countered, versus the hypothetical capabilities of the aircraft.

Hmm... nope don't remember the kid that you speak of.  However, remember that stereotypes are just that, stereotypes.  I can think of many other Asian stereotypes that would contradict you're hypothetical situation.  Stereotypes that would make me not worry about fighting against millions of them.

I'm not gonna be a fool to fall into that style of thinking, however.

Aust1mh wrote:

LOL, possibly true.  However, I've heard that China is having the opposite problem.  Not getting enough food to their huge population easily.

Aust1mh wrote:

Don't fall into what is in the media as being the standard, or what is "true."  Every country needs to deal with possible dissension amongst a few of their own people, and China is without exception.  Likewise, China is not unfamiliar to terrorism, and most terrorists probably aren't concerned with the repercussions of their actions with their own fanatical beliefs taking higher priority.

Let's hope we never find out, because the biggest, and baddest weapons available to the world now are more than enough to end the existence of everybody, on every side.

I have a feeling that China will follow the same line of thinking.  Afterall, it all comes down to the need to survive.

Depends on who wins the economic game, were all tied together now & if America went down everywhere else would be affected, the Chinese will wait until they have a winning hand then go all in,we will be there to call the bluff.

Your first statement was BS.  China's military isn't voluntary, no communist countries is, no matter what you're told.  China is going to fail economically soon as no one will be paid more than another will. It's like Russia, the Soviet Union was powerful and fell.  Even if China attacks our allies will have our backs, and if they want to be stuborn about not helping they can get a fair share of nukes if used when the time comes.

glad to see the great military minds of BF2 are discussing China vs U.S. ... a few things no one has discussed however is projection of military force.  Carriers, forward based equipment, intelligence, ICBM's, homeland defenses, troop strenghts and readiness.  Very few things anyone know about.  Whens the last time any of you were part of red flag or and readiness inspection or even read about one.

i do think about it, especially since i am prior service, but the reality of it actually scares the living hell out of me... neither side will win, or at least not people like us.

The way I see it, I dont see China being a real big threat to us in the near future.  While they are a communist nation....incase you havnt noticed, we have ALOT of imported shit from there.  Just look at the back of your TV, MP3 player, the tag of your t-shirt (Taiwan also common).  But if you think about it in that sense, we fund alot of their exporting economy.....now, if things every get too bad between our nations, all we gotta do is not import from them.  I have a feeling their economy would suffer.....which in the end could turn into a pre-emptive attack, such as Japan did when they attacked Pearl Harbor....we shorted them supplies and they got pissed.  I just cant see China, although communist, putting their people in the path of their civilians demise.  No money coming in from exporting to us and other nations, would be bad for their people considering no money to flow around to the civilians in cities.  I just cant see them being a big threat to us anytime soon.  Yes they have technology, and yes they have nukes.  But weve got technology and nukes on our side of the table as well.....If they ever did decide "hey, lets attack America", I have a feeling it would be the brink of a "Cold War" type of situation where the war is more us threatening each other rather than blowing the planet into 3697 pieces.

With Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and some other nations over there in the immediate area that are our allies, would potentially thwart any idea of attacking us, considering they are in Chinas front yard pretty much.

Hmm... any current/prior military that decides to post on this thread, and discuss possible "carriers, forward based equipment, intelligence, ICBM's, homeland defenses, troop strenghts and readiness" should keep it to themselves.  There's no point in "tipping one's hand to the other card players", especially on an open forum like this one.  I would hope that such "military minds" (especially "US military minds"... ) understand this as well.

It is scary to think about the "evil" side of reality, and most people on the internet are lucky enough to not experience this "dark side of life" in person.

Yes, if we went to war with China, we'd be in some deep water.  What people seem no to think about, but what a lot of people in this thread have pointed out...our relations with China are nowhere near the point we should worry.  They're actually quite good, since our economies are highly symbiotic.

China would crumble if the US companies move its factories to india... which a lot are a doing, dell anyone? theyve outsourced their asian tech support to india... now all dell customers have to listen real careful now

remember: the US has more military spending in a year than all of the countries in the world combined. China makes 1 billion dollars a year from trade w/ the US alone, china is kinda fucked if the US doesnt make trade w/ them.
