Playing to win VERSUS Playing for stats

How come so many people are obsessed with playing for their stats VERSUS playing to actually win.

I started a thread about PlaneWhore today and ALMOST EVERYONE in their complains about vehicles/planes/tanks etc. But isn't the aim of the game to win?

Maybe the rules of leagues and rules of pubbies don't apply too well to each other, but from where my past league experiences, we used the dirtiest tricks necessary to win the match including spawn blocking, armor camping+supply boxes, C4 spawn killing etc etc.

Almost everyone that has complained about the vehicle/tank/plane usage has poor W/L ratios due to this. Have they actually realized the error of their tactics?

Maybe next time people should concentrate more on winning the round than getting that 3.0 KDR with <insert weapon here>.

A person with 1.5 W/L and 0.5 KDR wins my respect over a person with 0.5 W/L and 3 KDR ANYDAY.

You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

every time i join a server i play to win.. i dont think about my stats when i play.. all these guys that sit around wating for planes, not caping flags or helping win, tking for aircraft want respect..

They play 1 map, the easiest map in the game to get points then want respect.. i did not bash.. i said i dont respect that.

tell me you got all your expert badges on foot? even though half your time played is in an aircraft or tank? you suck at infantry and you want respect from a pro ground pounder? talk all the shit you want.. your the exact type of person i dont respect..

Eh, some of the best players out there have a shitty rank. Want to know why? Because they don't care about stats, they care about winning and being a better player than anyone else. Most of the players on the CAL Main teams hardely ever pub, in fact, they could care less about stats, all they care about is winning. They play in unranked servers more than ranked. Just because you have a high rank and can whore a jet or something doesn't make you a good player. I wish people would concentrate on the objective, which is to win, rather than their personal stats.

Lack of respect is a bash in my book.

Planewhore does what he is best at. It helps his team win. If he kills 100 enemies and dies...0 times. That means you and the rest of the team have an advantage, because effectively the other team has a handicap.

100 and 0 means 0 tickets lost for you.

Take Oman:

USA (planewhore's team) is now at 330 to start the round, and the MEC team is already at 200.

If you can't win with him on your team...it's not his fault.

Also, I don't care if I'm not the best at pointing and shooting on the ground. That just means I have to find something I am good at to supplement. You don't seem to grasp this concept. Just because you don't chugalug on the ground doesn't mean you're not playing to win...or whatever.

In League matches, there are people assigned to do vehicles because that's what they're better at.

gotta respect the skill he's a good pilot.. But the fact that everyone now adays sits around waiting for jets, and will not leave the jet spawn till the aircraft pops = no respect anymore to jet whores.. you might be good at flying.. but the minute you sit and wait for a jet because you so scared to go cap a flag.. no respect..

In the time he went and capped one flag so you could spawn 100m closer to the enemy...he could've:

Cost you 1 ticket to get his seat in the plane.
Killed 20 people waiting for aircraft on the other team.

He netted you 19 tickets, instead of risking a ticket trying to cap a flag that will later be spawncamped by me so my team can try and catch up.

i dont disagree with your 'play to win' mentality, but the problem is that most peoples W/L ratio is not really in their control. You can have a team from heaven one day, and have the shittiest players you ever saw the next. Well thats my case anyways. I'll admit, teamwork isnt my strongest aspect, but in most city maps i religiously snipe from spawn points that are the enemies first target (Hotel in sharqui, backyard in mashtuur). thus i try and defend the places from getting captured. try as i might, such efforts have little to no impact on the outcome of the round.

in conclusion, i believe people play for stats because they are in the players control; winning the round rarely is.

edit: just read nytes other "planewhore" post. see, thats one guy who has the ability to win rounds with effective bombing. snipers like myself dont have such abilities, and so we play for stats

I play for fun. There're so many fun things to do in this game, so I often just do whatever. But it's usually more fun when my team's winning, so I do what I can to help.

Playing with a squad: fun.
Leading a squad and launching a successful flag raid: more fun.

Sniping: fun.
Sniping to defend a flag: more fun.

Flying: fun.
Flying a helo & clearing out flag defense for an infantry squad: more fun.

and the list goes on...

Even with a gimped team, I always try my hardest to win even if it involves dirty tactics.

I WILL camp the airfield to ground an expert pilot consistently, I WILL place claymores in spawn points, I WILL block spawnpoints with vehicles. I WILL steal armor and run it back to my teams base so someone else can use it. I WILL take the enemy transport and give them to my team or put them in the red boundary zone.

But I also WILL switch to another kit if the situation calls for it, I WILL pick up a medic kit to revive a teammate/heal them, I WILL pick up a support kit to chuck ammo for me and my team, I WILL pick up an engineer kit to help repair, I WILL pick up a Spec Ops kits just to blow commander assets, etc etc
