Stats are nothing, what if you were a real bad sniper, and it affected your stats early on in the game.. Then you become alot better but it would be too hard to overcome the bad stats then it will make you look bad..when your not

the best snipers are the ones that run around dropping ammo packs for teamates, they dont need to wear one of those silly Look-I'm-a-tree outfits and are really fast at dropping prone and waxing the enemy with a single shot from their trusty L96PKM-A1.

I like to judge by the "WTF" factor.
If you can kill people in ways that make them go "WTF!" you have suceeded in becoming a good sniper - kinda.
Another aspect is being invisible. This means you need to be able to hide so well that even if an enemy KNOWS where about you are they can't see you.
But what am I saying, JeSTeR_Player1 summed it up pretty nicely.
I like getting rounds where I don't die once. That's being a careful Sniper. You may not get too many kills, but it's an awesome thing to do. I've been able to do it once on Karkand, (9 kills,) once on Operation Cleansweep, (16 kills,) and once on Sharqi, (23 kills.)

Somebody who spots out targets for their teams and will prevent enemy ground troops from getting near your flags.

I don't know... I guess the best sniper is the one who inflicts the most dammage to the other team? Sitting in a corner playing hid and seak doesn't cut it for me. Yes you can get a nice K/D ratio from it, but while your are hidding you team is trying to win the map.
And based on that you should used all that is in your power to do so.
1. I don't use claymore for self protection, I'm always on the move, since I can't bring my claymore with me I may as well use it for something else. What people call spaming, I call flag protection. I usually get 1 kills and more if I'm lucky. And a flag defence as a bonus. That also means some player will decide to pick another flag or force them to work as a team to cap a flag.
2. Move, move and move
3. Be agressive.... I don't have the best K/D ratio, but it's over 1 meaning I inflict more dammage then I get. Also with 31 kills/hour or 0.5 kill/minute, I try to be in the action. Nyte is in a class by himself, 56 kills/hour. That's almost 1 kill/minute with the Sniper rifle.
And before people starts flaming about stats... yes I'm having fun and yes I play other kits. And Sniper is up there in term of fun to play with.

My stats are teh shittest around (nearly) and yet I can snipe good. soo stats aren't a good replication of how good the sniper is.

I for one use VoIP nearly all the time and actually do stuff like you know... winning?
Some words:
- Know when your ticket bleeds, thats your cue to CAP SOME FLAGS.
- The only time a sniper should be sitting on top of whatever they sit on sniping, is when the map has not possible ticket bleed for a team.
- If the other team is ticket bleeding, then BASE RAPE BUT DON'T CAP THE BASE (Capping the base only causes unnecessary ticket loss on your side, just camp outside their base with transport/armor/chopper/Nyte and hammer down their tickets)
That's why there aren't that many snipers out there with high W/L, they are too concerned with their KDR (Check out Doctuh, THAT is what all snipers should be).
