soapbox
A lot of you guys are looking at this all wrong....
1) This has been in production for 2 years, and from what I have seen so far, this is the real target that DICE is shooting for --with BF2 being a quasi-along the way-semi-experiment.--
in other words BF2 IS the public BETA test -in a way-. BF2142 will be teh real deal, warts and all.
This is why you aren't seeing a whole lot of effort going into fixing the few minor (as far as playability) bugs in the current game. The damn thing is more popular than anything else out there, wake up.
IMO the the primary reason that Activision is proceeding with QW:ET so they can cash in with the EA haters union.
I've seen some footage btw and I, for one, am not impressed with what was shown. Combine that with the lack of character persistence and it spells -runner up- in my mind.
I expect the box to look f'ing awesome, however.
2)This is nothing like Star Wars or Mech Warrior
There will be NO lasers, plasma weapons, light sabres, or other energy beam weapons.
It's still bullets and bombs, just that they are probably going to be a little more lethal a little more accurate and a lot more fun. --I will miss my AK tho --
"Why futuristic" you ask with a frown ?
because it's the only way to introduce all those fun new toys without upsetting the 'It's not fkn realistic' BF1942 fanboys out there.
Let's face it, WWII has been done to death, get over it and move on -- It's the 21st century.
As far as the walkers or Mech's are concerned, big deal, they will be very easily spotted and relatively slow moving. I am sure that veteran BF2 players would be up to a little challenge?
Teamwork will be the key. Rambo all you want, but expect to be at the bottom of the list.
The 'cloaking device' is not a way to remain invisible whilst camping. You cannot shoot or knife anyone while cloaked and you will still cast a shadow so you will not be completely invisible, however this should make getting from point a to point b at least possible using the Recon Class, given the hi techness of it all.
I fully expect to be knifed in the back quite a few times, and the knifer will add my dogtags to his collection.
Pretty f'ing cool idea, if you ask me. I expect to have my own collection as well.
3) New graphics rendering engines are great --about every 2 years or so--
I don't know about you but my rig runs this (BF2) engine fine and I would NOT like to upgrade my machine every six months to be able to play the next game in line.
Some of the emerging ones look fantastic -cough- Crysis -cough- but I don't expect that upcoming Single player game to be much more than a technology demonstrator with maybe a deathmatch or something.
