I have done it and it isn't that hard, though now when the lenght have been reduced it's it a little bit hard because you need to be somewhat closer.
But it's possible if you are fast and the server don't lag so much.

i have done it every now and then with the tv but it takes tons of practice. i can do it also flying with the f15 or the other bomber. it quite fun when you run out of bombs and you still have lasser guide missles

Locoloki, thanks for this legitmate question/complaint.  This appears to be a problem that EA should address before they start losing players.  After all this is a game for EVERYONE and adjustments are necessary when it is pointed out there are skilled players taking advantage of a game flaw at the expense of everyone else.  This is no different than Microsoft correcting exploits in their OS.  Sorry Guys,  this is one of the reasons I won't stay on a game very long even after gaining a few points.    I play for the fun of it and would rather lose those few points than smash my video display out of anger over some hot rocket jockey owning the map with his helicopter.

it may take skill but its still as lame as seat-switching in the cobra on BF:V. (which they did patch and make it harder to do, so hopefully it wont be long untill they sort it on BF2)
If you jump into the gunner seat you should crash, end of story.
Plus its just plain bloody ignorant taking off on your own in a chopper, no matter how good you claim to be.
If you think you are a top pilot, let someone jump in the gunner seat and go for his helicopter ribbon and get yourself some Team points in the process.

agreed that its a waste to take off with just one person, but sometimes it happens due to people not wanting to get in, stealing a heli from the other team, or your gunner/driver getting shot out.  I certainly wouldn't condone it, but I hardly think its an exploit, because like you said, having two people in it is much more advantageous than one.

I don't care for people who do things like that.  It is much better if you have a dedicated gunner to help you kill targets.

On servers with a small number of players it can be a big advantage to be able to switch seats like that.  I don't consider it an exploit.  If you do, then you have to consider switching from a gun seat to a non gun seat to repair it an exploit as well.  It's not against ROE if your doing it to try and win for your team.

If for some reason I find myself on the helipad with noone else around to be my gunner, Ill look on the minimap and find the closest bloke wandering around on his own.
Its good when you pick people up/someone picks you up instead of being a lone-wolf in the chopper.
The bloke on your team you never spoke to is suddenly your buddy and before you know it youre in the same squad and throwing compliments each others way

It's VERY possible to do this. Hellfire-AA, I recall completely handed my ass to me on a hotplate a few days ago along with my chopper pilot. We died from him like 8 times.

you do it when your noob copilot bailes, then you just switch, spin in a circle for a few turns and then use your sniper missile to shoot down enemy cobras, its a good time all around

its easy to do u turn the chopper a little to the left past the enemy chopper the u quickly switch to the gunner and when u do that it will spin then u quickly shoot of the missle then guid it into the enemy chopper its not a cheat u just have to be good at flying and gunning.

Its incredibly easy once you figure it out. You can tv guide without a pilot just about as good as WITH one.

I get tired of pilots bailing out of helos all the time.  leaving me as the gunner without a pilot.  As I'm a better gunner than pilot I get pissed. However, I'm an ok enough pilot to save the chopper and try to find someone else who can fly, if I notice they bailed in time.  The more I fly, the better I get at it.  I was playing follow the leader in a server with a guy in the Mi-28 yesterday before the round started.  We were both helping each other get better at flying through tight spaces and hovering and such.

you can keep the chopper relativly stable by putting the nose down a bit and pitching it to the left, this way i can gun peaple on the ground with the cannon by myself

i see absolutly nothing wrong with what has been explained, there are some chopper gunners out there who will almost never miss, he spins, sees you, fires, hits, just a matter of practice but i really dont see what all the fuss is about...

Lol, sounds kinda stupid to quit a game for a hardly used, non exploiting playing style. Well, guess stupid suits you then...

Could possibly have been me....was it Dragon Valley?  This IS possible, just ask any experienced pilot/gunner, actually not that hard to do.  Personally, I have found that Dragon Valley is the easiest map to do this on.  Definately not a cheat, just a lot of practice flying alone.  You will notice in trying to do this that you need to aim to the left a little to compensate for the spinning.  Try it out sometime!
Ken my ass u can do good in dragon valley with the tv ITS FRICKEN ALL LIGHT U CANT SEE SHIT
No, just fly high enough so that there is a background to shoot against.  It's one of my favorite heli maps.  Try it some time, just because you can't figure out how to do it doesn't mean I'm lying.
Draw on your screen with a sharpie, where the crosshair is.. it helps a lot.

I got my good conduct ribbon in dragon valley.  I was a gunner in helo piloted by a good pilot.  I had 13 kills before my game crashed.  Fortunately I got back into the game and was able to get kills 14 and 15 before the round ended even though I got team switched.  Nothing like an award to turn a bad thing into a good thing.

First: use the SEARCH button. Just type in "TV*" and there you go. 1023 topics on the EXACT same thing you  are saying.
Second: experiment. You CAN do the same thing with the chopper. change seats fast, click right mouse button fast, and guide away. THE TV MISSILE VIEW DOES NOT SPIN BECAUSE IT IS INDEPENDENT OF THE CHOPPER. YOUR CHOPPER MAY BE SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL, BUT YOU CAN STILL CHILL BACK AND FLY YOUR TV GUIDED STRAIGHT AT THE UNSUSPECTING ARMOR BELOW.
Third: NOOB!

I know this probably has been said, but once you get the hang of it, its actually quite easy.
I shoot down a few choppers a day that way.

And yes I'll share a few pointers

-=WM=-KobraKai wrote:

I tried doing it once and it keeps spinning out of control on me LMAO i cant do it . I hit the radio tower  before i hit any chopper.
Thats one way to do it, this way requires timing. I only use this way when I'm hovering and see something.
When I'm not doing that (and here comes the thing you might want to try) fly the chopper forward at a good speed - then the chopper wont induce a spin (or not a huge one anyways). This makes it much more reliable and controlable.
a few small notes.

§1 It helps if you are trained in the use of TV-Guided missiles in general
§2 Have good ground clearance (fly high).
§3 Have some quick fingers when switching between gunner and pilot seat (F2 and F3), cuz if you miss, your dex. with your fingers might buy you enough time to get a second shot
§4 There is an extra benefit when you sit in the gunners seat. AA's and jets cant lock on to you when you are soloing in the gunners seat (and any lock will be lost if you jump down there - although a locked missile which has been released will hit you). This is very handy (especially) in critical situations. partial credit to 1sfg-ronln because he reminded me of this (2 post down).

although it is becomming harder to do this in the new patch with the greatly reduced radius of the missiles.

Have fun and GL-30 with it

Over and out "Z"
