Steam Hacked, Credit Card Data Potentially At Risk

" Gabe Newell announced today that Steam's database and forums have been hacked. According to Newell, Steam's forums were defaced earlier this week, and further investigation led to evidence that the hackers had obtained access to the Steam database.

"This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information," Newell wrote. "We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating." "

I don't use a credit card on Steam, thankfully.
I guess if anything happens to my acct Valve will replace my games or what have you.

Thankfully no one can do anything to your steam account unless they have access to your email account as well....

unless you were a dumbtit and disabled steam-guard of course

Just do it. Even if you don't buy anything online (I'm pretty sure you have), keep track of your statements and credit. Do you swipe cards at all at stores? Do you have cards at all? You're already in danger.

If more people kept track of their own shit, certain forms of identity theft would be tougher and more books would be balanced.

But as for the above you are better off changing your e-mail account password if it is the same as you steam one, since they will need your e-mail to make any changes to your steam account unless you turned steam-guard off...
