There should never be any debate over maths, except for theories, hence why they are called theories. It's a perfect science.

If there is ever any debate of the answer its either a problem with the person, or a problem with the equation.

Well you're doing it right. They are interchangeable and you solve them in order of appearance, left to right. Anything else than 288 would simply be considered wrong at every level of math I've had; calculators work with the same method.
