When the crusaders conquered Jerusalem in 1099, the population was around 70.000. By the end of 1099 the populations was a little less than 30.000. It was brutal and bloody – for muslims and jews.
Crusaders had the iron fist around Jerusalem. It seemed impossible to get back under Islamic rule. Still..muslims were very focused on getting Jerusalem back, and they were so sure of their success that Saladin's predecessor, sultan Nur al-Din has issued an order in 1168 to build a minbar to be installed in the Aqsa mosque after the coming victory. In 1187 The minbar was installed in mosque, and Jerusalem was back under Islamic rule. Jews, Christians and Muslims were back in their holy city, praying side by side.

Very fascinating story. Finest piece of art.

For the 2,000 or so years before 1930 that was the situation.

As for the Palestinians, I guess they were tired of the rain of US supplied bombs dropped from US supplied aircraft.
Thats the thing, that sort of involvement doesn't tend to endear yourself to people - and you're surprised they don't like you.

It did.

We accomplished it in Abottabad, Pakistan, earlier this year.

DC just hasn't bothered to notice, I guess.

Halliburton's catering contract isn't up for a few more months yet, so we have to keep the troops there.

For those of you that are pro-Palestine/anti-Israeli,
would you support a two state solution that follows the 1967 boundaries and recognizes Israel as a nation?

Would this be enough for a lasting peace, or just a stepping stone towards the inevitable eradication of Israel?
