So you think really hot? Hmmm, now I'm not sure what to do.
I've read before that hot water =/= cleaner sheets. .. that it was a common misconception. Might not apply to blood though. Prolly just generally speaking.

I've also heard adding a little bit of white vinegar will help with tough stains.
nar mate, it's all about the rubbing (no pun intended)

cold water is BEST for sheets, you soak cold, you wash cold.
I always wash in cold. Always.

I was in warm, I figure it works better. Plus I don't have that cold wash detergent.

edit: I mean for clothes

Well that's hella believable.
Ok, what do you think happened?

I've had it happen from ex girlfriend during sex and we realised afterwards. Happened a couple times, didn't bother me much.

I've said it before, most detergents are biological now. Biological = enzymes which die when in a bit more then body temp. (37C) so if you wash in hot, you make the detergent pretty much useless.

You sure? I don't think I've heard anything about my detergent being full of enzymes.

EDIT: I'll be damned. "Ingredients include biodegradable surfacants and enzymes"

Even so, I imagine the manufacturer takes that into account that people still wash hot quite a lot.

proteins denature at high temperatures, enzymes == proteins

The enzymes in biological detergents enable effective cleaning at lower temperatures than required by normal detergents, but are denatured at higher temperatures[1]—about 40 °C is recommended.[2]

Suite101 wrote:

Enzymes Allow Low-Temperature Washing
The addition of biological agents called enzymes, improves the performance of laundry detergents at lower temperatures. Most of these biochemicals work at temperatures of around 30 to 40 degrees Celsius, and they work by breaking down the constituents of dirt and stains. Originally biological detergents used proteases, which are enzymes which break down proteins, a major component of dirt, but now washing detergents also contain amylases, lipases and cellulases. These additional enzymes combine their actions to break down a wide range of chemicals in stains and are remarkably effective in washing clothes at lower temperatures, saving the consumer money and reducing the quantity of energy used.

Long story short, there's blood all over my sheets. I promise I didn't kill anyone. How can I get it out? Will sticking it in the washing machine work or not? Google suggests rubbing it with cold water for ages, but that seems like far too much effort for the amount involved. Anyone done this before?

Huh? I've had this computer since 2007, I think you're confusing me with someone else. Either way, whilst I'm aware new sheets would not be very expensive, I need something to sleep on tonight, and I'm not going to throw something perfectly good away without trying to sort it out first.

Well, I put them through the wash on 30C and it seems to have mostly come out, so I've stuck them through on another run in the hope that it'll get the remaining bits out. It's not very noticeable on the duvet cover any more, so I'll bleach the sheets if they still won't come clean.

30C isn't very cold You risk permanently staining them.
