So with all these new devices like cars, printers, and your blender becoming internet appliances it seems that hackers are extending their targets to more than just your desktop computer.

https://img822.imageshack.us/img822/8308/600wolfgangpuckpowerble.jpg

Here are 10 everyday items that are open to fresh attacks from criminals.

1. Your Car
2. That New GPS Gizmo
3. Your Cellphone
4. The Front-Door Security System
5. Your Blender. Yes, Your Blender
6. Your Printer
7. Your New Digital Camera
8. The Power Sockets in Your Walls
9. The Human Body
10. Even the Human Brain

I'm protected.

I use GOATSE Security.

And the "Hacking right now" tag is clearly bullshit. Did you even read the article?

I hate it when the media tries to explain hacking to common idiots. Now the majority of Fox News watchers/readers are going to be freaking out about hackers stealing their smoothies.

Not really a spam thread. Not much to 'Debate' about, but it qualifies as both 'Serious Talk' and 'Everything Else.'

I think it might accomplish some good. Encourage people to reject certain networking technologies before there is sufficient security built for it to rebuff all but the most dedicated attacks.

Going to be a cold day in hell before I plug a computer into my brain, though.

Anyway, I don't see a need for a god damn kitchen appliance to have networking capabilities. It deserves to be loaded with malicious software if it is

I don't know, I quite like the idea of having a networked fridge. For it to order food and stuff.

Cars: Just don't let the computer even be connected to things like the transmission and ignition

GPS: Download updates from the official manufacturer's website

Cell phones: More plausible

Home security: Get your security from companies like Beretta, Colt, Remington and HK not ADT

Blender: The article itself says you just need to encrypt the network.

Printer: Possible, but that again is combated by having manufacturers use WPA2

Camera: Don't download suspicious links

Smart grid: Sounds like simple conjecture

Pacemakers: Yes this has to be addressed

Brain: That's not hacking, that's (as the article said) social engineering. Wow, fuck you Fox News.

Most of this can be solved through smart programming, the rest by giving the death penalty to shits who do this.

When the name of the article sounds like something you'd read on a magazine cover, and they mystically list the human body and the human brain as hackable items without more than a paragraph to back it up...well I find even calling it "serious talk" stretching it.

Well, it is serious talk, even without source articles to back it up. But it probably won't affect us until we're all doddering in our 80's and 90's.
