Alright I've never owned one before and have been reading quite a bit on training them. Does anyone know how to correctly introduce him to people he seems to growl at the neighbours. He is four months old he is a cross I know he has american pitbull in him.

I will take some photos later he is asleep currently and I don't want to wake him.

So yeah guys any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

You need to socialize him.

Best thing to do in this situation would be to smack the back of its head with a shillelagh.

Great with children, especially babies. I leave my 7 pitbulls and 6-month old at home together alone for the weekend all the time.

Assert yourself as the alpha male first and foremost. No, really.

Thing is I took him out for a walk. This guy was holding his two dogs on leads outside his house. The dude wanted me to bring the dog over to try and socialise. They were kind of going mental at my dog. This obviously distressed my dog. I manage to get him to sit. Then the other two just went mental.  I ended up just walking off with the dog.

socializing doesn't mean terrorizing your dog.  take him to a park.  take him where people are.

As far as people, have them approach him slowly in the least threatening way possible and let him smell their hand etc. When hes comfortable with that, move onto gently petting his back. When hes good with that you can move on to petting his head etc. Just keep an eye on him to make sure he isn't getting to aggressive or uncomfortable. It may take a couple times for him to get used to it.

If you have the money, take him to one of those classes at pet-smart or wherever. Definitely worth it in the long run + they will give you a more specific idea of what to do. Other than that, or if thats too much, just pick up a magazine with some basic information (or just google it, probably get the same result).

Biggest thing though is definitely socializing with other well behaved dogs and humans (again, pet stores are a good bet, dog parks if you have him), and make sure he is well treated and not abused so he doesn't end up nasty in the long run. Also, gently criticize for barking, jumping, biting etc now so its not an issue later.  Also, if I was you I would train him to stick with you off leash now, so he can be off leash when hes older. Makes walks and stuff much more enjoyable, particularly in more remote areas sense the dog can get more exercise/ have a better time. Keep an eye on him for weight gain and start doing set, measured meals so he doesn't become a fatty.

Hopefully this helps.

*sigh

Staffordshire bull terriers are excellent pets.  It is all in how you raise them.  For example take Redman's old dog.  Well actually he died (at 16).

*if you've ever seen that show, Big Daddy has tagged along to some of homes of the most fucked up dogs out there, and introduced to them -he does nothing.

Personal image dog, tbh.

The breed won't make your penis any longer, unless you subscribe to the Elephant's Child story (I suppose).

I have a Staffy cross. Great with people, not so great with other dogs. Apparently that's common in that breed.

What you'll want to do is get to training right away. Make sure it knows that you're the boss quickly so when you tell it to not to do something it will make the connection early on that these things are wrong. Growling at the neighbors is a place to start, make sure it knows damn quickly that you're not going to tolerate that bullshit.

Last thing you want is an ill-tempered dog that doesn't get on with people. It's a constant annoyance, Hell even my dog's refusal to get on with other dogs is annoying, (although not so much any more as she's getting old now.)

Well this dog was given to me by my brother in law who has 3 dogs already. Obviously dogs like these have a bad reputation. Seriously he is really nice completely adores my 5 year old nephew! He does have a brindle coat he just got up I thought he needed a leak. Turns out he just wants to play I sent him back to sleep!

for now, don't worry about getting him comfortable with other dogs,  especially random, poorly handled dogs on the street.  get him accustomed to people, places, noises and especially kids.
