hahaha france.

it wont benefit humanity. it's half-fun for me and it'll benefit 25% of one of 6 modules taken during 1 in 3 years of my degree.

utterly insignificant, wholly esoteric, totally self-indulgent.

fuck being an arts student is awesome

that is when im not sat in a library at 10pm with an empty can of relentless staring across the table at an equally-bored-looking-yet-kinda-cute asian girl, which is kinda boring and doesnt properly represent the sheer awesome kickassery of being an arts student. no. nowhere near

besides, meh, how much does studying molecules and theoretical physics for 3-4 years REALLY 'benefit' humanity, anyway. degrees are rarely about utility. i get to read trippy inspirational shit to get my 'ur half smart!' certificate, other people have to spend 3 years stuck in textbooks full of math formulas with small footnotes reading: "we're so sorry that you'll never ever get laid". uni is kickass, yay.

Well turned. Funny that you and I should share that outlook on being arts students; I however never understood the purpose of a lit degree, to be honest. Soc, hostory, yes. Lit, no.

That said, to each his own. I'm sure you're having a blast, which counts more. Just so long as we hate theoretical physics.

Ya know, I'd actually love to study literature.. Just being a professor isn't something that appeals, and tbh I can't think of any other job where one would really use this education. I guess I'm too chicken to take the chance and study something that doesn't give you a lot of opportunities job-wise (though please, prove me if I'm wrong).

Maybe if I do a second degree.

err... journalism? business? law? english literature isn't a pathway to being a professor, what a fucking dumb outlook. it's one of the most versatile degrees, provided you have the skillset and the experience, to turn towards anything you want. providing you have the self-determination.

flaming maniac shut the fuck up you precocious douche, yet again. dostoevsky was nothing but a drunk and im looking for things that arent there... sure. im sure you've got it right and the literary critics of the 20th century have all been foiled by you, the 17 year old fucking genius. oscar wilde was a drug-head, byron was a sexual deviant, freud was a coke-addict... are all of their ideas worthless? jesus just go drown in your own self-ejaculate already. p.s. the essay is on the aesthetic of democracy in bakhtin's theory, not dostoevsky. quick go google something seditious about him, too, so you can totally make me feel utterly useless over an internet forum .

I know a lit-student can get jobs other than a professor, sure, but (and this is just how I see it from the outside, I don't really know how a literature student goes about his work) it doesn't seem to have that direct connection to a line of work that other educations (eg. engineering) have.

I mean, it seems to me that a literature degree is great in combination with other degrees (example law, business), but it may not be that strong alone? I mean, you could do a lit degree and an MBA, but wouldn't you then be better off with some sort of economics degree and an MBA? And wouldn't one want to study law as well if you want to jump into the law-scene?

These are genuine questions btw, not rhetorical or "loaded" in any way.
