Welcome to ObamaCare. Good luck with all that.
Its the end of America as we know it.

Never before has the US Govt had the power over individual lives. We now have a direct relationship, not just as citizens but more or less customers of the governments new mandate.

Speaking from experience, working for the government as military personnel and as a civilian loan officer for the Small Business Administration, the government is a well oiled machine. No need to make it more efficient or make it smaller. Power comes in numbers and the more you have people depending on it, the better it gets. Right?

Someone outline again why you don't want universal healthcare?  Also, it would be better received if cliches/rants/meaningless rhetoric was omitted.  It's painful reading through such arguments sometimes.

Votes need: 118
Votes received: 120

And only one republic voted for it.

As for the garbage comments above (panda excluded), the Health Care reform still has a way to go before becoming law.

yeah I know, it has to pass in the Senate too.

The government cant force me to buy anything it sells.

I believe in the Constitution and my right to freedom. This does not expand my freedom. It takes a little bit more away.

I'm absolutely for comprehensive health care reform. Just not in passing a 1,990 page law that forces the government into my life. I voluntarily signed up to serve my country and abide by the Military code of conduct and the lawful orders given to me. I served for 8 years. Honorably. My average proficiency and conduct rating were well above average at 4.6/4.8.

As a civilian I worked for the US Small Business Administration, assisting disaster victims through Katina/ Rita. We accomplished an amazing feat with paying out over 10 Billion dollars in disaster relief monies in less than 14 months. But, the efficiency and rate of production would fail in the private sector. I have little faith that the US Govt. can run this new health care, lawfully and efficiently, for over 308 million Americans.

The King James version of the Bible runs more than 600 pages and is crammed with celestial regulations. Newton's Principia Mathematica distilled many of the rules of physics in a mere 974 pages.

Neither have anything on Nancy Pelosi's new fiendishly entertaining health-care opus, which tops 1,900 pages.
That's exactly the sort of sensationalist language I hoped to avoid.  Although it may provide information, there is obvious bias over the entire website (now, I'm not saying that there is a single person without bias, but these are opinion pieces, not news reports or fact sheets).  I'm also hating this.

SOme interesting facts in The Australian today.

The Australian wrote:

The United States is the only industrialised democracy that does not ensure that all of its citizens have health care coverage, with an estimated 36 million Americans uninsured.

And Washington spends vastly more on health care _ both per person and as a share of national income as measured by Gross Domestic Product - than other industrialised democracies, but with no meaningful edge in quality of care, according to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
So in short. The US spends more on health care than any other industrialised democracy, and doesnt provide universal cover. Its certainly time for an overhaul.

I don't think it will stand up to a Supreme Court decision. They would need a constitutional amendment for this to be legal. Especially the part that requires that you purchase and keep insurance or you will be fined. Since when can government force you to buy a product provided by a private company?

Soooo the US gov't already spends a shit ton on health care for an inferior product in comparison to other countries yet their "fix" is to throw money at the problem. Great.

I bet we spend more money per capita on our non-producers than anyone in the world. The retired are the largest reliable bloc of voters so politicians end up spending trillions on stuff like Medicare that is essentially a black hole. Every old and/or fat person needs a $10,000 powered scooter, no?

Problem is efficiency.

I personally doubt any congressmen had read the 1900 page bill. It's like the PATRIOT Act all over...

I don't know how this'll work out for ye but socialised healthcare does seem to work better than purely private healthcare. Healthcare costs in Europe are way cheaper than in the US and the cost in terms of standards isn't gigantic.

And it's not like they're outlawing private healthcare.

This is what people like lowing can't seem to get through their thick head. He thinks Obama is destroying freedom with OMG HEALTHCARE. Fuck the Reagan health care rhetoric tbh.

They just did destroy a freedom by not allowing people to not have the choice to carry insurance. If the government option gets any federal funding then our private insurance companies won't be able to compete either.

It may not pass senate.

The problem with the plan is that people don't trust the gov anymore, if they ever did.

They keep saying that they have broken social security, medicare and medicaid. Government run programs like Fannie Mae and Freddie mac have been both corrupt, inefficient and have contributed directly to the financial meltdown. Yet, somehow these stupid fuckers will get it right this time...

The resistance is because we know that this will be the biggest boondoggle in our history. It is because of the abject failure at protecting the border. This plan won't just attempt to cover mericans, but every mexican that can sneak in here.

The plan has one goal in mind; to complete the financial destruction of America, started under Ronald Reagan. The end goal being American not being a place, but an idea. An idea that spreads like a fungus and eventually covers the entire world.

There are a thousand things that could or should be handled first, the fact that they are desperately trying to ram thing through should make people nervous.

There are a bunch of bright eyed socialist fuck-wits who think communisim is a great idea, that it has just not been tried by the right people.

And I hope they burn in hell.

On the contrary that would create more competition as the government would simply be another provider. Take Taiwan for example. Here the public health care is covered 60% by the government, 30% by your employer (if you have one) and 10% by yourself. But there still exists private health care since some procedures cost a lot of money and if you want priority on a monetary basis, it is still available. Private hospitals still get funding from the gov as if a patient checks in with their national health insurance card, it is billed to the gov.

If the plan is entirely to REMOVE all forms of private health insurance which I doubt, since US health insurance companies are very very powerful groups... Then I am against public health care without a private option. But health care should be the responsibility of the government imo, as are all other public services such as the fire department and police department.

Those are local and state services though, which are much easier to tailor to what the citizens in those districts want.

If that was the case then there would be no private healthcare in Europe, which is plainly not the case. I have private health insurance. You're being somewhat absolutist.
