I just realized that I've been signed up here for over a year and haven't really contributed that much. So I figured I'd offer up a bit about myself.
What do you do to escape the pressures of work, school, bills or just stress in general? Do you have a hobbie or something you do that you truly love?
For me it's playing music. I've been playing the bass for the past 16 years and looking back I can't imagine life without it. When I started playing at age 14 my life was changing, a few years before my mother kicked my father out after years of his excessive drinking became to much to take, my family hit some tough times and it was all out of my hands but when I played my bass I was free. I was in control and could escape the stress in my life even if only for a bit. Music taught me discipline, patience and gave me something to strive for. Years later it was a way to meet new people, learn new things and even now it helps pay the bills. It doesn't really matter if I'm playing original music, covers or just freeform jamming with some friends for hours at a time. I'm always searching for the moments when all the notes fall in just the right spots and the percussion becomes a second hearbeat. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up, a chill runs down my spine and everything around me disappears until there is nothing but music and once again I'm free.
So what about you? What do you love to do?
