it's an aged stereotype. sure, we still have a working class - so does every country, and they all have their own habits and identity - but the day of the burberry wearing 'devvo' has passed. for a start, burberry redesigned their brand, and outpriced the louts, and nowadays everyone can casually wear tracksuit bottoms or hoodies without necessarily becoming the scourge of the nation. the 'chav' phenomenon was a media-hyped thing, blown up by tabloids and sensationalist articles, propagated by a bunch of bored adult journalists that needed a new, fascinating youth culture to latch on to. everyone seems bored of it and, besides, we've been diagnosed with new waves of nationwide rot now: the binge drinker, the football hooligan, the young radical islamist etc. i think people got bored of the "we hate chavs! / chavs suxxx!" bandwagon.
