Lower your core speed the lower the temps, so a higher multiplier could help. Although with a half decent cooler I don't think it will be too much of an issue. Probably best just to overclock with your standard multiplier, and a good fsb ratio.

yeah this akasa heatsink i have is a piece of shit... have remounted it so many times and still just doesn't perform very well, really. will look into buying a new one pretty soon.

I don't get why I can't have an HDMI cable hooking video up from my Xbox 360 to a PC monitor, and some type of headset plugged into my xbox, and only into my xbox.

Like my friend showed me his Turtle Beach headset, and there were a million and one cables. Why isn't it just a green and pink wire to the xbox like a green and pink wire to a PC. Freaking retarded!
I assume you have the slim version of the xbox.

Get this.  http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Cable-Adapt … B002P35JMO

HDMI to TV.  The above to stereo plugs to your analog headset.

This is my xbox headset though: http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media … B0017IUFAE

can someone recommend me the best heatsink for £30-40'ish quid please. i don't want a top-end one or any 'xtreme overclocking' stuff... just an after-market cooler that will be able to push my i5 760 to 3.8Ghz or so as expected.
The Corsair A70 isn't a bad option. Only £33 and it's up there in performance with some heatsinks twice its price.
looks very nice, although i notice it has a push/pull fan configuration. not sure i'll be able to use a push fan on any set-up because of my mobos RAM slot placements. would be a very tight squeeze, especially for a 120mm fan. would the performance be gimped that much by only having the pull fan?
What RAM do you have? Often the fan will cover the RAM slots, but if you have low profile RAM it will still fit. The annoying thing would be having to take the fan off the heatsink if you wanted to remove the RAM.

What do one of those Corsair CPU water cooling things cost over the in the UK? Love the hell out of mine - quiet as a church.

Cheapest is about £60, so a bit more than he was planning to spend.

Ah OK, definitely out of the question then.

I know when I build an HTPC (when the need actually arises), I'll be setting something like this up. The pure lack of noise sold me on it.

I've always been interested in giving one a go but can't really justify getting rid of my Noctua cooler.

They're not better than the absolute best air coolers, but if you would see a performance difference over what you currently have, it's definitely worth it. Be sure to not get the lowest model. Get the better one with the fat radiator and two fan configuration.

i have 8Gb of corsair RAM with quite large heat radiators on top so i'm pretty sure a dual-fan push/pull set-up wouldn't fit. it doesn't help that my motherboard puts the dual-channel slots practically right next to the processor, either. not good. the corsair all-in-one water heatsink does look really nice but it's just a little bit too expensive for me and i don't really care about overclocking _that_ much. i'm not looking for 4.0Ghz+ or anything.

I don't overclock my processor at all and the block that sits on top of your processor is tiny (a pain in the ass to mount on the H70 with AM3 socket but it's tiny). I had the exact same problem you have with RAM but I don't even have anything mounted on the chips themselves. But as you said, it is a bit expensive. If I hadn't gotten mine at the price I did, I doubt I would have bought it.

Given how many different heatsinks there are out there, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like and that also fits your needs.

If your not looking to overclock but are having trouble with tall ramsinks, you can usually find those Coolit eco all in one watercoolers for cheap. Their quiet too.

Going to buy some more RAM to bring my system from 4 to 8 GB. Currently have DDR2 667. Been a while since I've mucked with this stuff, so compatibility has escaped me. Do I have to get exactly the same type and speed, or just the same type or just the same speed?

Its highly recommended to use identical sticks, otherwise the system may become unstable.

That's what I figured. Just wanted to be sure, in case it was hard to find.

I'll be upgrading from 4GB to 8GB in December once hard drives come down in cost. Want to get that new case then, too. Unfortunately I think my 4GB in chips that I have in there now are faulty, so I may send them in and then turn around and sell them when I get them back (while enjoying brand new 8GB Mushkin chips so I'm not without RAM during the RMA wait time).

Does anyone know how I can get a program to start up minimised to the tray instead of just minimised to the taskbar?

If I edit the shortcut to run as minimised it just starts minimised to the taskbar which isn't what I want. If I press minimise on the application itself it will go down to the tray like I want it to but I need this to be in the tray from startup...

What are you doing that requires another 4GB? Video encoding or CAD or something?

quick google:

You can have any selected window minimized to the system tray automatically at its startup so that it will work in the background till you restore it.

I was hoping there would be a way to do it on Windows without the need for another program, especially not one that needs to be purchased as I'm trying to standardise and image which will be used on hundreds of PCs

as far as I'm aware I don't think there's a way to do it through windows, I think it'd be through the program itself.
