They are required to give you tap water free of charge. Even if you're not a customer.
Here you go. It doesn't apply everywhere. But there you go. It's a law from within the UK requiring places with a licence to sell alcohol to provide free tap water.Provision of non-alcoholic drinks
9 (1) The conditions specified in this paragraph apply only to the extent that the premises licence authorises the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises.
(2) Tap water fit for drinking must be provided free of charge on request.
(3) Other non-alcoholic drinks must be available for purchase at a reasonable price.
Happy to oblige.
So, that is for a bar/pub only yes?Bertster7 wrote:

No. It's for places with a licence to sell alcohol to be consumed on the premises. Like pretty much all restaurants. Bars and pubs too.Red Forman wrote:

No, but you were too fucking stupid to read exactly the post he made, where it says the law only applies to where alcohol is being served - that's the limitation on the law, take from that what you wish.Red Forman wrote:

For the past few years, all my applications to Banks, Jobs and the sort have always created problems that don't happen to other people.
Why?
Because I have a Belgian passport.
Funny thing is, that shouldn't stop ANYTHING from being processed just the same as a British passport, because BRITS ARE PART OF THE EU.
How many times do I have to shout down the phone at some ignorant bastard asking me for my Visa because I have a Non-UK passport?
It's fucking ridiculous. Banks ask me for my Medical Health Card, bills from where I live, more photo identification.... Just because I don't have a stupid British passport.
You guys seriously need to get your heads out of your asses and realise that you abide by European laws.

Oh I just found out that Teh Netherlands pay over 4,4 Billion Euro each year. While the UK is 5th or 6th greatest economy in the world.

Provision of non-alcoholic drinks

If you had read what he had written, you'd understand that the extent of the law only applies to those selling alcohol which is directly sold for consumption at the location of sale. Either:apply only to the extent that the premises licence authorises the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises.

Restauarants can't serve booze in some states!?!?!? I thought you lived in the US, not the Middle East?
Attitudes to drinking in the US seem strange to me. It's not uncommon for me to have a pint with my lunch at work, whereas I have always gotten the impression that would be SEVERELY frowned upon in the US.
I suppose drinking is just a bigger part of European culture....
We get a huge rebate on our EU fees. The other big EU members want us to get rid of it. The British government said it might well be a good idea to review the rebate, whilst reviewing the CAP - an idea the French in particular are not very keen on....GateKeeper{NL} wrote:

Well, maybe not states..I dunno, haven't been to all of them. But there are dry counties and cities. Hell, jack Daniels is made in a dry county. Even South Carolina bars can only stock those little airplane bottles of booze. They can't have the big bottles. At least that is what it was in 2003.Bertster7 wrote:

Just seems shit to me. I thought it was only crappy Middle Eastern countries that did stuff like that though....
It just seems wrong that there could be a scenario where you sit down for a nice meal and ask for the wine list and they tell you they don't serve alcohol. I'd probably walk out.

Red may not have been in every state, but he has a good idea of it. we had mini bottles here. we have counties that sre dry, wet, dry on Sunday only, cities within counties that allow consumption but not the sale, etc.Red Forman wrote:

that's why i believe, in the US, UK, AU, wherever you have the opportunity, get involved or allow others to make your decisions for you.
I could be way off, but I heard somewhere you can't take your own wine to restaurants in the UK (or at least it's frowned on). True?Bertster7 wrote:
