Although I disapprove of that, it is an attack on Obama himself, and not American culture. Obama could be considered a threat to American culture in some eyes.usmarine wrote:

Gotta disagree, the very fact that I accknowledge my opinion is hypocritical to our constitution pretty much shows I knoe exactly what AMerica is supposed to be about.Mekstizzle wrote:
Why don't you move, clearly you haven't got the least clue what your country is about and what it represents. All of your views on the US are pretty much totally wrong. The problem comes in when freedom of relgion is supposed to include a relgion that would love to see our nation destroyed at the most and at the least converted to Islam where those freedoms are not enjoyed or welcome.
Quite a paradox isn't it?

The only sides to Islam that get huge publicity and have serious financial backing are the two major extremist sects, originating in Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Visit Indonesia. Largest Muslim country on Earth. They'd have a hugely booming economy right now too if it wasn't for Australian and American interference.
This has got to be the most absurd example of people with simple minds and too much time on their hands. The Eid festivities are celebrated all over the world, and they're either official holidays or unofficial days off in many countries, including the Western nations. It's thoroughly sad that someone can sit down with a calendar and a sensationalist agenda and rally the mindless masses against the "liberal sheep" over something as absurd as the date that a religious holiday falls on.
Anyone riled up by this seriously needs to reexamine their priorities.

The extremist fringe of a population of around 200,000,000? I think it's like 80% Islamic so there's bound to be a few nutters. Just like any other country.Ilocano wrote:

So should I hold up those Westboro nutcases as an example of the USA? You can get shot by people anywhere. My point was for the most part Indonesia is a moderate Muslim society with religious and cultural freedom governed by a secular government. Islam isn't all bombs and beheadings ffs.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
I'll be celebrating Eid. I'm going to get a goat call it lowing and have it slaughterd according to muslim tradition.

Maybe, and this is a stretch, it is because there are Islamic Americans?lowing wrote:
THey also did not include all men are created equal to mean black people. It was the time they lived in. I am glad that has been resolved. However, since Islam does not reflect our society and morality as it is today, I see no way or reason to accept it and adopt it as part of our mainstream society, since doing so, is a step backwards.usmarine wrote:

Thing is, there is no denying the intent of the founding fathers and their words and actions. They set up our nation with Christianity in mind and its morality. Islam was not a consideration, and since Islam goes against those beliefs, it is no stretch to reason or justify its resistance by society. Even oin the face of hypocrisy.
Personally, I like the idea of removing all religious holidays from the calendar and replacing them with "floating holidays" that people can take whenever. This way, people have the option of working during the holidays if they would prefer it and taking vacation whenever they actually want it (as long as they don't go over the number of days allotted).
So you are saying that your view does not allign with the constitution, and therefore you "know" what America is supposed to be about?lowing wrote:

Fantastic, then there are plenty of places to go to celebrate other than the country/society Islam condemns.mikkel wrote:
