I haven't posted on here in a long time, partly because I've been very busy lately and partly because I feel certain stories don't get as much allowance as others from certain mods. However, I felt this story warranted mention because it typifies the direction in which I see the world going these days - this forum in particular being a classic example in many ways.

Marwa Sheribini was a 32-year-old pregnant mother-of-one originally from Alexandria in Egypt but living in Dresden, she was in court for the appeal hearing of a man known to the media as "Alex W", an immigrant from Russia of German heritage, who had been fined for calling her a terrorist for wearing the traditional hijab. During the proceedings the accused decided to murder Mrs. Sheribini by stabbing her 18 times. Mrs. Sherbini's husband was then reportedly shot by police as he was trying to save his wife and is still in critical condition in hospital.

This is where society is heading in my opinion, baseless hatred and racism towards the Muslim community as a whole because of the actions of a violent minority. It's not just the act itself here that sickens me, it's the media reaction (or lack thereof). Ten Muslims on the street shouting at troops coming home from Iraq get front page headlines and blanket TV coverage while the murder of a Muslim by a violent racist in the middle of a courthouse almost slips under the radar. Imagine the media frenzy if a Muslim had killed a Westerner in a courthouse on the grounds of race and religion. This story happened last week and I only happened across a follow up story on the BBC website today.

Anyway, I will let you all get back to your Muslim-bashing.

Thank you. That is all.

I cannot fathom in anyway at all why the police would have shot the husband and I really hope he recovers quickly.

It certainly hasn't gotten the media attention that a story like this warrants, and an unfortunate consequence could very well be that little or no action is taken against the police officers responsible for the husbands shooting.

At this stage though too many details are lacking. Especially reports that should be coming out of Germany.

How the fuck does someone get stabbed in a court room, and then how the fuck do the police end up shooting her husband for trying to stop it or help.

Wow that's some fucked up shit.

To be fair on the police it is possible that they missed the stabber and accidetally hit the husband. I guess we won't know untill after some serious invesitagions have been carried out.

That's what I thought too, in the heat of a scuffle that is a fairly plausible possibility... it just doesn't make for good reading in the grand scheme of the story though.

Re: the police action

Sherbini's husband, Elwi Ali Okaz, who tried to defend his wife, is in critical condiction in a German hospital. He was stabbed by Axel W and shot in the leg by a security guard who initially mistook him for the attacker.

If it was a Jew than the Germans/International/European media would go crazy, to be fair in mainland Europe especially it's all just gone from hating on the Jews to hating on the Muslims, and the Jews.

So am I to understand that she was there on his behalf, even though not requested by him?

There are a number of baffling issues in this case:

1. Why did she have to attend his hearing, he had already been found guilty at the previous court-sitting. Her side of the story should have been on record?
2. How was he allowed to get so many stabs in before being stopped by security?
3. How could a police officer mistake a Muslim man (we presume) for a white Russian racist?
4. Why isn't this story more prominent in the news?

Retarded police. Shooting at a husband trying to help his dying wife. What happened to the hater and murderer? Did he got decorated by the police for killing a Muslim woman?

1. Why did she have to attend his hearing, he had already been found guilty at the previous court-sitting. Her side of the story should have been on record? Perhaps it was just a case of seeing the person being sentenced to help them feel a bit better.
2. How was he allowed to get so many stabs in before being stopped by security? I wonder this, but, obviously a significant failure on the security's behalf.
3. How could a police officer mistake a Muslim man (we presume) for a white Russian racist? Probably a state of panic and perhaps a lack of training in this kind of scenario.
4. Why isn't this story more prominent in the news? As bad as this sounds, one person being killed is rarely considered newsworthy.

1, 2 and 3 are all good points but I must argue with number 4. I know people get killed every day and not all of them make the news but it's the context that usually dictates which ones are newsworthy. Michael Jackson's death was evidently worthy of blanket coverage all week because of the context of his fame. This woman was killed in a court of law because she was a Muslim... now that's what I call context. I remember a crowd of about a dozen Muslims getting top headline on the news a few months back because they booed at soldiers returning home from Iraq, why do Muslims only get top billing when they are the bad guys? It sickens me how hypocritical the Western world can be, we're so conceited that we're the shining example of how a society should be run even though our own shit often stinks just as much as everyone else's.

I would have had more respect for the topic if it wasn't laced with the "unfairness" you claim in these forums. Since I have been a part of these forums, I have seen more evil U.S. and evil Israel threads than any thing remotely bashing Islam. There are a few guys here that attack the muslim religion but just as many attack christianity/religion as a whole and more posts than any other attacking the US and Israel.

I actually don't agree with you about the western media not covering this story because she was Muslim. The fact is that the media focuses on sensationalism and we had the biggest sensational story in the death of MJ. MJ single handedly took every press away from very, very important news that was going on in Iran and China and even the major issues facing our country right now. I would say that had more to do with this story being buried than any other reason. The western media is a twisted mess and the there is no better example of what got buried behind the MJ fiasco.

Well its not just Muslims. Negativity in the media gets ratings, which is why whenever an incident - in say Iraq - is reported, it will be bad 9/10 times. Good things about groups are rarely put through the news and are generally shoved aside.
