I just realised I've been here two years. Ouch.
Here's to another 2 years!SirSchloppy wrote:

2.5 years here
11 months.
Almost a year.
Almost a year.
So, like, I'm in an internet café, and you need to buy a coffee to get 1 hour of internet, so I bought a coffee, got my reciept with my login details on it, plonked my coffee down next to my laptop, went back down to the bar:
'The details on this reciept don't work'
'Oh, okay, here's another one'
They did work, I just got a free hour of internet. Yay!

That's like a $1.50 profit! Slow down there, Dr. Evil.SirSchloppy wrote:

I believe that program I use will do everything the timer will. It will also save the images directly to my lappy with a nice full screen preview. My biggest error was setting the interval too far apart. The fact that the clouds were coming in extremely fast didn't help. I also had to end it quickly since the rain was starting to come. Oh well, first run..mcminty wrote:

Sony vegas sux for this.. I also realized I need to shoot for at least 1hour+
will use Adobe Premiere Pro next time
1. Get yourself the Canon TC-80N3 timer-release.
2. Quicktime Pro (yeah, It's what I use.. none of this fancy Adobe Premier )
Exposure Length and Frame Interval:
Preplanning for this is crucial. What interval did you use between each frame, and how long was the exposure time for each frame? For a cloudy day, with a little bit of wind, you should be aiming to get an exposure of around 1-2 seconds.
But minty dude, won't things like tree branches be blurred?
Why yes, they will. When put together, the image sequence will appear to move smoothly. Much like the individual frames of a movie are blurry, but when put together they project smoothe motion.
Now, in order to get that nice smoothe flowing motion, I suggest that the maximum interval between taking one frame and taking the next is double the exposure time. So, for example: 2 second exposure should be taken every 4 seconds.. So the camera is taking a frame for 2 seconds, resting for two, taking a frame for two, etc etc.
This of course will give you 15 frames a minute. So for 1 second of footage, you need to shoot for 1.6 minutes.
Putting It Together
I usually import the images into Lightroom, where I do some minor changes (usually with the blacks and contrast) before exporting them at the correct size to be 1080p or 720p videos.
Once I have a folder of numbered images, I go into Quicktime Pro and hit "Import image sequence" and set the frame rate to "24 frames/sec". Then it is a simple matter of exporting it as a .mov file, before uploading it to the internet.
Finished Product:
In this example, 1/4 second exposures are being taken without any gap. As such, motion appears to be smooth and very fluid. And yes, I am driving on the correct side of the road

I'll give qtpro a try. I was using vegas/premier because I was familiar with them. I had trouble importing them as an image sequence in vegas.
Thx for the info.. weather permitting I will try again later today. I 've got a nice block of knowledge to work with now.
