Buying after Christmas, along with a PC.

For one thing I don't want to have to download the whole install as a 'patch' like BF2 Patch 1.5...

i fully expect mw3's campaign (if i ever play it) to be better than bf3's. they've had far, far more experience at it.

and i fully expect not to give a shit.

edit: i'm reading it now and tbh given what i've seen of the campaign, it's fair. there are a hell of a lot of scripted moments and quicktime-events for such a potentially open-ended game. it's what-could-have-been which bites.

Regarding the IGN review, I don't understand the reasoning behind reviewing a multiplayer game before it's out.

I also don't understand why they're waiting for the day 1 patch to review the console versions but not the PC one.

Okay IGN.  How many fuckin people actually buying Battlefield 3 are even going to TOUCH the singleplayer?

Unbelievable.

Sigh, DICE shouldn't even bother with singleplayer, if they had spent the time on making something else maybe we could have had more factions/weapons/maps/vehicles to improve the actual "Battlefield" part of the game -.-

Problem is any review written for a game like this is meaningless, as people have mentioned no matter how good the singleplayer is it won't have any real effect on sales or the longevity of the game - which is almost always the best indication of a truly good game - and I've seen very few reviews which have done justice to any multiplayer game on any major review site.

This on top of the fact that we pretty much know that there is an endemic problem with review sites and their relationships with publishers, as long as sites make money from the exclusives and previews that game publishers so generously give them they will have to be kinder to certain games that they otherwise wouldn't be. I'm sure there are a few places that are beyond that level of "corruption" but they are in the distinct minority.

The worst example of "corruption" in recent history has to be Deus Ex Human Revolution. Square Enix would only hand out review-copies before release if the reviewers promised to make it look good in the review...

There have been servers up for weeks which Reviewers and DICE/EA employees have been playing on.

How so? The game itself is the same.
Developers and reviewers are people too? The fact most are adults is sure to make the game better than when the 12 year olds come at release...

They'll be pandering to the reviewers the entire time making sure they have the best possible time with the game.

I remember in BC2 there were hundreds of snipers on every server not doing any objectives, and DICE said "Derp there weren't this many snipers in our internal playtests'.

So? When you review a game you rate the game, not the community... The only thing they could do to "pander" to them is to let them have the vehicles/classes/etc. they want when they want it, they can't change the core game...

Well it depends what you think makes the multiplayer experience fun, if a reviewer constantly got killed by developers who knew every in and out of the game said reviewer might think that detracted from his enjoyment. Now you'd hope that professional game reviewers would be above making those sort of judgements but as someone said, they are people just like us, I know for a fact I enjoyed the beta more when I wasn't dying every 30 seconds and so might they.

As I said before I very rarely trust any reviewer when it comes to multiplayer portions of a game, they can analyse the core gameplay, the graphics, the sound or the presentation all they want but the fact is I enjoy games for reasons beyond that, one of them being the community that comes with them.

I would never have stuck with BF2 for as long as I did if it hadn't been for the guys at TOP and the fun I could have with them, I would never have played WoW past the 2nd month if I hadn't got into a guild that let me raid dragons before anyone else in the world. So many games I still play now I only revisit because of the people that I can play them with or the community based mods that allow me to change the experience and the only reason I'm looking forward to BF3 is to play a good - hopefully - game with people I used to enjoy kicking around with.

In short, review scores mean little at the time of initial release to me, maybe if someone started writing retrospective reviews I could find some old titles that I just never got into but for now I just try to find out everything I can about how a game plays and make my own judgements.

So the co-op is "uninspired" according to game informer.  Wait a minute, I thought they told us months ago we'd be able to play 4 player co-op in the campaign?

activated through a Korean proxy, although MP is a laggy piece of shit at the moment and there aren't many servers active. But I guess that is kind of expected.

Just going to play through SP for now.

Will the single player be like call of duties 'going around the world' fighting terrorist as a one man army or will it be more like a typical soldiers experience?
