Traded in some Xbox games and pre-ordered BF3 on xbox. PC pre-order coming next pay check. I have friends on both platforms.
I was just thinking, the health regen system and suppression system work together pretty well. If you hit somebody and they duck for health, just suppress them. That would be pretty cool to have a 249 gunner suppress a guy while two riflemen flank and finish him.
And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.
except that this sort of thing WILL NEVER HAPPEN, shifty. this is the sort of fantasy hypothetical in-game situation that military nerds and 'fps realists' love to get hard-ons imagining, but it literally NEVER WORKS. that's because the modern generation of attention-defecit fps gamer doesn't give a shit about 'working together' or performing military real-life manouevres to outwit and 'engage' the 'enemy'. they are either there to shoot random shit and have mindless fun or they're there with a bit of skill looking after their 'stats r life' mentality. good players in pubs take care of themselves and bad players take care of no one. the whole "suppressing fire! alpha squad flank left!" shit NEVER happens anywhere outside of a LAN. they just become annoying and pointless gameplay mechanics that don't really add anything to the gameplay at all. neat the first time, annoying the second, enraging the third, and so on...

oh and not to mention that the entire mechanic is pretty much reliant on good map design for success and effectivity... which i have very little faith in, judging from the map layouts and style of bad company 2 and the vietnam expansion. 90% of bf2's maps were pretty much shit and forgettable, too, cutting out the nostalgia bullshit. we all played 10% of the maps for 99% of the time. i'll be praising the high lord with a thousand hallelujahs if this suppression thing even works and is integrated well on ONE map. can you even think of anywhere in karkand where it would work? i can't, except maybe the bridge, which was an annoying clusterfuck anyway and only applied on large pub-noob servers.

Mashtuur City
Sharqi Peninsula
Warlord
Ghost Town
Iron Gator
Night Flight
Devils Perch
Great Wall
Mass Destruction
Leviathan
Surge
Off the top of my head, A+ maps that weren't forgettable. I will agree that most people played Karkand the most though.

Great, so you effectively need 3 players to kill one person.-Sh1fty- wrote:

or a grenade
It wouldn't even happen in a clan match, the games mechanics just don't make 2 players "flanking" an enemy a valid tactic. "supression" slightly blurs your screen, so you if there's only 1 way an enemy can get to your position you just face that way and wait for them, or for their bellend mate to stop firing near you.

Kubra was the best map hands down. If your playing BF2 how it was meant to be played anyway, It had everything. 2nd I'd say gulf or sharqi.
You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.
I hated kubra, idk why.dragon valley was pretty fun though, and oman

Kubra Dam was great. Oman was ace too.

@ jord Iron Gator is really fun if both teams are even. Nice infantry setting and a different concept raiding a huge aircraft carrier. I hope BF3 has some epic maps like SF had including night maps.

and if you can suppress with MGs, wouldn't it make sense to make it work with SMGs and ARs as well?
You can get suppression points from any weapon, so long as you pour enough rounds on them.
^what he said, in the Alpha I noticed I got suppression points when I was holding a rifle.

even with a bolt action?
Could someone link me to a video of the how suppressing fire works in bf3? Thanks.
Not sure with the bolt action. I used a semi auto to suppress someone once, firing as rapidly as I could.Trotskygrad wrote:
