Not owning a TV has less explicit implications. Running a TV station puts you on one of the most widespread media mediums, if not the most widespread medium. People don't want to read newspapers, people don't want to only listen to radio, they want to see and hear what's on the TV. Thus, the TV attracts the most people and earns the most money.
