A UK team plans to smash the current world land speed record with a new 1,000mph car.

The Bloodhound SSC, which has been in development for 18 months but has remained a secret until now, will be powered by a Eurofighter Typhoon engine, with a rocket booster for extra oomph.

Yeah... 1000 mph, thats faster than a bullet....

The fastest cars I have seen in person are top fuel dragsters. I've seen them go over 320mph. The first time you witness that kind of speed you are shocked. You must see and feel it in person to truly understand their power and speed. Videos do not do it justice. It would be pretty crazy to have a car fly by you at 1,000mph.

Watching a car reaching only 320mph after 4 seconds and then stopping is not very amusing.

Have you seen it in person? I don't know anyone who has been in person and did not have a holy sh*t look on their face the first time they saw a top fueler run. The power rumbles your chest and will make your ears ring. If close enough (like in the pits) the exhaust will put you in tears. I've only been a few times, but its fun to stand near the start line, watch the burn outs, and drink some beers.

9mm (pistol) = 1000-1400 fps = 818mph average
7.62x51 NATO (military rifle) = 2400-2800 fps = 1773 mph average
300 RUM (hunting rifle) = 2800-3400 fps = 2114 mph average

So, faster than a pistol bullet, sometimes.. but much slower than a rifle bullet.

But, the really interesting bit about that 'car' is that it's doing above Mach 1.0 while on the ground.
Just a little bit of turbulence left uncontrolled.. just a little bit of aerodynamic instability not calculated for = BOOM.

Chuck Yeager had a hard enough time with Mach 1.0 (768mph). This 'car' is supposed to do Mach 1.3 (1000mph)
