The figure seems to be greatly exaggerated. The Holocaust page on Wikipedia lists the total deaths of that event as in the range of 8 million, and there's no mention of Catholics on the list either, so they're probably grouped into one of the small categories with others.

I found no mention of Catholics being killed en masse by the Nazis beyond a couple cases of priests in concentration camps, the largest number of those being 2,500. Surely they weren't free from persecution and I'm sure many thousands perished, but the numbers don't compare to those of the Jewish victims.

Maybe I sounded a little extreme, but I really don't like how everyone always talks about the Holocaust like it was a Jews-only thing. And I hate how Jews are special for everything. Like how being against them isn't just "racist" like it would be for any other group of people, but it's "anti-Semitic" and shit like that. It just gets to you after a while. I dislike the whole "holier than thou" shit that they preach. Maybe if they really are more special than other people, that it's not so bad if everyone hates them because they'll all be next to God when they depart the planet.

But, of course, not, they're just human beings. Like you and me.

What about the Reichskonkordat?? Stuff like that would have protected catholic priests for the early parts of the war.... If this many Catholics were killed it would have been for being Poles rather than Catholic. As far as I know only Jews and Jehovas witnesses were targetted for their religion.

I've never seen anyone mention the holocaust like it was a Jews-only thing. Everyone knows that there were other groups targeted, but the Jews were the MAIN group. THEY were the ones who were specifically targeted.

If that figure is true, a majority of it would have been down as political prisoners/enemies of the state etc etc, or families that had fallen out of favour.

I spent a fair while in Berlin, and IIRC i saw a memorial to the murdered peoples of no clear reason or something.


The museum to the murdered jews is quite something though, definatley worth seeing.

It is weird that we focus so much on the Jewish side of the Holocaust, though. In school we've studied that at least 6 times, read Anne Frank in one class, went to Anne Frank the play in another class, read Elie Wiesel's book, etc. We've never talked about the other kinds of victims, besides the mention that "Oh yeah, he killed gypsies too."
