A community I am affiliated with is looking into starting a dedicated wake airshow server.  But it appears that it is not as easy as just adding the map to the rotation.  There are certain server files needed to do this and through all of my searches throughout the net, I can't find them.  Does anybody have any experience starting a dedicated server that runs Wake Airshow that could tell me how to set it up?

Thanks.

BTW, I searched and found this.  Hopefully this thread gets a little more attention.

Edit:  xXDomination told us exactly what we needed to know, the server is up!

What is your server provider?

Yeah I gave up trying to add airshow to the map rotation.

I don't believe you can do it on a "ranked" server, due to EA requirements.  That is, your game service provider will not allow you access to certain files/directories that would allow the installation.

I think he knows it can't be ranked.

I know you can put different map files on, maybe ask some people in the competition BF2 circle?

EA changed quite a few policies about 12-18 months ago ... that's what prompted me to write the text that I've now highlighted.  At least from my experience, these maps can be added to a private or non-ranked server, but not a public ranked server.

Yeah I know EA disabled I believe FTP access in a very poor response to all the server hacking going on, but I don't see that his community ever bought/was expecting to buy a ranked server. You can buy unranked BF2 servers from providers, usually used as match servers, and I am assuming this was what they were looking at.

Our service provider is MYIS.  Our head admin has FTP access to the unranked servers.

And we know it would have to be unranked.  In fact its the match server we would be converting to wake airshow as it is currently collecting copious amounts of dust.

The question is what do we do with all this?

See I was thinking that someone who knows how to get competition maps on the server would know how to get Wake on...? Sadly I don't sorry, that's just the kind of person I would look for.

It can be a little annoying trying to get the map to run on the first try. Hopefully, this will help.

To begin, I'm assuming you already have the map on your client. Make your way to the location it was installed: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels

Locate the folder for it, "Bf2c_Airshow" and copy it to your desktop. Open the folder(the one you copied to your desktop) and delete the file "client.zip". Now just as a precaution, go through and replace any capital letters in file/folder names with lower case letters. Servers running linux do not recognize capital letters(Some files in the info folder do not require this, such as "gpm_cq_64_menuMap.png".

You should now have the following on your desktop:

The main folder:

The contents:

https://img122.imageshack.us/img122/5156/filesinfolderla2.jpg

Content of the "info" folder with some files still possessing capital letters:

The above is what my running airshow server folder looks like. So make sure yours looks the same.

Now that you have the map/folder ready for upload, just get into your servers FTP and upload it into the bf2/mods/levels directory like below:

https://img122.imageshack.us/img122/6056/ftpzh0.jpg

After uploading it, log into BF2CC to finish up the setup. When adding the map to the rotation, be sure to select a game mode from the drop down menu or else the map will not run. Once again, it should look like so:

Save and apply profile and voila, that should get it running. If you run into the problem of the server doing an eternal restart loop, clear the map list, add a vanilla/default map and restart it. Then re-add airshow to the rotation. Good luck.

That info worked perfectly and the server is up!
