MSN wrote:

Russia is to face mounting pressure from Britain and international allies to end its military action in Georgia amid accusations it aims to "conquer" its neighbour by force.

Europe minister Jim Murphy said Moscow's actions were "utterly unacceptable and totally brutal" and urged it to accept an EU-drafted peace deal backed by Georgia's president.

And as the United Nations Security Council began more emergency talks, Moscow was warned by US President George Bush not to proceed with a "dramatic and brutal escalation".

Russian forces, which entered the separatist province of South Ossetia on Friday in response to a Georgian bid to retake it militarily, pushed beyond its borders on Monday.

The Georgian embassy in London said Russian jets had bombed the capital city Tbilisi throughout the night and Mr Bush said the Russians appeared set to attack the Georgian civilian airport.

Giorgi Badridze, the acting head of the embassy, said Russia's actions had "nothing to do with the enforcement of peace" but were a "pre-planned strategy aimed at conquering Georgia".

"Throughout the night and following the unilateral ceasefire, the Russian jets continued the bombardment of (the) capital of Georgia, Tbilisi and other cities and villages.

"Today the statehood of Georgia is in great danger and thereby leaving existing world order in uncertainty," he said, comparing the incursion with Nazi actions ahead of the Second World War.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who discussed the issue with Mr Bush on Monday as the president returned from the Beijing Olympics, has warned there can be "no justification" for the action.

Downing Street said both leaders had agreed the Russian government should "end its aggression immediately".
Make your next move carefully Mr.Brown.

Britain and Russia both tried to pressure each other after the Alexander Litvinenko case. Neither side had much affect then, either.

It's still got a long way to go yet.

Northern Ireland is a part of Britain. South Ossetia is not a part of Russia.

Georgian troops still went and killed Russian peacekeepers.  I'd say hitting back at the Georgian army's fair.

Most people in Ireland recognise Northern Ireland as part of Ireland that is merely under occupation, the same could be said about Russia and South Osettia, many Russian maps show South Ossetia as being part of Russia.

No it is not. Take a look at a map again. Britain, or Great Britain as it is referred to, constitutes Wales, Scotland and England. Also Northern Ireland was an artificial creation magicked out of thin air in 1922 cutting hundreds of thousands of Irish people off under British control. The island as a whole should have been returned to Gaelic rule at that time. At this point we just have to wait for demographics to do their job and tip the occupied six counties back into the Republic.

Obviously it is, but because of the Cold War everybody hates Russia because we knew they were better than us.

Russia will obviously come off worse in this peace treaty thing.

wtf? Where did I say anything about an invasion? Irish people in the north are multiplying faster than British people. There will be a democratic 32 county republic within 25 years.

The UK would probably be better off without Northern Ireland (and Scotland, and Wales). They're all just being heavily subsidised by England anyway

The only way in which the East was better than the West was that the East didn't have ridiculous paranoia about a Western invasion. I mean shit, who made the whole thing up about the USSR invading Western Europe/USA? Or did the USSR actually threaten to do it?

I bet it was just more fearmongering by the usual suspects. One way to get the public behind you is to create a common enemy. First it was the Russians, then Muslims came in for awhile, now it's both with some Chinese fear thrown in for good measure.

I'm not going to be one of those faggots who are scared of the Muslims/Russians/Chinese, that's a job for Americans.
