Glass2K. Transparency anything.

I just discovered this uber handy application that can add transparency onto any window. It works really well and I notice no lag at all.

Visual Basic 6 Runtime DLLs - 4MB Direct Download
Glass2K - 54kb Direct Download

You can tune it to different levels (ranging from 0-90%) and it is absolutely brilliant imo.

Why?

I don't get why you need to see through things...

What's with transparency lately? I'd hate to read a large file in notepad if it looked similar to that screenshot.

Ever since I fired up Trillian opacity for the first time I realized that this was the way forward for Windows (take Windows in any form you like), and this application has resulted in making my Windows a lot, lot nicer

Like I said in my posts, you can adjust the level of transparency that it runs on

But you've got a high degree of transparency in both notepad and your browser. When is it practical to have transparency?

Personally, I think it looks better. Clearly, you do not

Obviously. So you're saying that there are no practical applications?

Well, if you want to see windows behind other windows then I'm sure that is a practical reason, and I'm sure there are others ... but for me at least, it is purely aesthetically pleasing and because I look at a monitor for several hours a day it is something I vastly prefer, and offers a nice change

I have my AIM set to lower the opacity of any windows not selected to 30% or so, so that it's easier to keep track of which box is selected. If this allowed you to set the transparency of any window that wasn't selected in sort of the same way it would be cool I guess, but why would you want to be trying to read something when whatever behind it shows through...

I'd need a stronger glasses prescription to deal with that.

That was going to be my exact response as soon as I glanced at this thread...

Why the need to look 'modern' and have all this new-fangled transparency? It makes my eyes bleed. I don't want to have to read documents or web-pages through the outline of my desktop wallpaper... and in fact every program that needs transparency in its' windows in a sensible sense (e.g. MSN conversations) already have this feature.

This is the reason they don't print books on transparent projector material: Coolness +1, Functionality -100.

nView transparency was infinitely more useful, and why in gods name are you using the Vista basic theme? Have some dignity and turn the Aero on.
