Which is what makes them truly mediocre. What is the point of living life for the sake of living life, never doing anything worthwhile?
Getting home safely to take care of their parents, or to see their children is more worthwhile than dying to maybe save a stranger who's already suffered a stab wound from a "rambo knife"
Some people have too much responsibilities to be a have a go hero.
Like the responsibilities to his fellow man?

Wow, a lot of you guys are beyond belief. The only people that would be remotely helpful in this situation is those that are trained in hand-to-hand combat and disarming. FM, you claim you'd help and that people should be ashamed of themselves for not helping. Trying to be a hero in a situation like that is what gets you killed, then all your family and friends have to suffer, as well as the original victim's. I'm willing to bet that in the situation you would never have the balls to try to help, the strongest human instinct is self preservation. Especially when strangers are involved.
TBH, if I was out and about, saw a knife be taken out, I'd be hitting the ground running as soon as I saw it. Losing your life for someone thats been stabbed that many times in quick succession is a lost cause and waste of life.
The strongest
animal instinct is self preservation. (in most cases) We think of ourselves as man not beast, but when the time comes to prove it we go right back to our most basic tendancies.

You saying you'd do it for a stranger is just stupid, especially with the fact you've had absolutely no training. (BTW the guy's brother survived)
lol lots of assumptions
You guys have as much reason to believe I would run away as I know I would try to help. There is no more reason to call me a coward as there is for me to say I would help.
If you were the one being attacked, can any of you honestly say you would not want anyone to at least do
something? Do unto others...
