Haha I know. I have a hard time using non-battery powered razors now.

Electric razors don't remove a layer of skin when shaving, unless you're prepared your skin for both pre and post shave (total ballache) it will result in accelerated ageing of the skin.  Good enough?
So what would the "proper" method be for the pre/post?

I always shave after I shower, use some cream (Edge Ampt or something right now), then put cold water on my face after and pat it down with a towel.
wash face with hot water (opens up pores)
wash face using a soap free facial cleanser
Wash face using a facial scrub in circular motion avoid using around the eyes (removes dead skin and make stubble more erect)
apply shaving foam or gel to face
shaving using downwards strokes, do not shave against the grain & continually rinse blade under hot water
when finished rinse face with cold water (closes pores)
Apply alcohol free astringent to face (optional, closes pores)
Apply post shave healer, let it soak in
Apply rich moisturiser, let it soak in
Look like pat bateman

Avoid alcohol based products, as finray correct states it dries the skin.

Total ballache though.

And use an aftershave with little or no alcohol, because alcohol drys out your face, and makes you look old.

Why shave with the grain? Because there is less of a chance of nicks and cuts, and because it reduces the chance of ingrown hairs and razor bumps. When you shave against the grain, the razor's blade catches aginst the hair and pulls it slightly further away from the surface of the skin. This results in an increased likelihood of shaving the hair at a level slightly below your skin's surface (one reason why ingrown hairs develop). Also, when you shave you are not simply taking off hair, you are taking off a fine layer of skin. Shaving with the grain tends to be a little easier on your skin as well; the razor tends to travel a smoother path with the grain of hair growth.

I very rarely cut myself, and I've never had an ingrown hair, even when I shave against the grain it still protrudes above the skin and is visible.. maybe I'm just weird.

Same for me.
In fact, if I don't go against the grain, it won't be as close as possible, with a "five o'clock shadow" already visible.

I am glad I don't get too much facial hair Plus I'm blonde, so anything I get is kinda hard to see. I shave like once a week with some electric shaver, no idea what one.

I have to go against the grain to get a decent shave, but yes it's hell on the skin.
