REAL blog post about the Sniper is up!

It's been a couple of weeks since we posted, so we thought it'd be good to do some housekeeping. The next class pack will focus on the Sniper. It's actually shaping up to be the largest TF2 update yet, with multiple new maps and a bunch of gameplay tweaks. In addition, we've got another update in the works that should be done before the Sniper, and that one will include some new content for all classes.

I just read that. No idea how I missed it the first time. So yeah. Awesome. An update before the Sniper update with content for all classes, and then the massive Sniper Update. Should be great

Aye. Wtf would be the point of playing demoman half the time if everybody could toss a nade about here and there. The primary weapon is not the pipe-bomb launcher. That's why the nade launcher does so much damage.

They've pretty much given the scout back his conc. jumps (for distance anyway, if not height).

While it was a nice interesting and funny read (especially with the Dr Who music blaring away xD), they told us almost nothing new D:.

The new rifle will bring the Sniper closer to the front line.

I wonder when they'll be done

I actually like being an "active sniper" in pretty much every game ever, the sniper weapons can really only be used at a very long range, to far away for you to really have fun. A good example of an "active sniper" is using the bolt-action rifles in CoD5 without the sniper scopes, you're still vulnerable in CQC, but you can be mobile enough to have fun and get kills without having to camp half the length of the map away. I hope that's what they do for the sniper.

However Valve still needs to be careful to not make him to good in CQC, he still needs to have the property of being a free kill in CQC or else he'll be too well rounded.

Im guessing that there is going to be no charge up time for the new rifle and the closer you are the more damage you do so if a 125 health guy is like 10 feet away youll kill him with a body shot but at 100 feet a headshot does like 125 max. Theyll balance it buy making unscoped shots do like 25 -50 damage at all ranges

Today they've written a short piece on how they've released the .vmf source files for a bunch of official maps for the SDK. The interesting part is here:

It's the first time they've even mentioned Hydro since the game's release. And it's also the first time i've seen them admit that 2Fort and Hydro have problems. It'll be interesting to see what people come up with to make the maps flow better, and it'll be even more interesting to see what Valve does with these ideas.

inb4 2Fort is a great map. Yes i'm sure that with 2 teams that are all working together it would be good. But in general pub play the map fails miserably due to the huge emphasis on defense. Same goes for Hydro in fact, but it has so other many problems on top of that that I don't think it's quite as.. er. Lost my train of thought.
