Again, this is a difference in enforcement (and interpretation).  Christianity had a reformation and separation of church and state is a major theme in most of the West.  The unification of religion and state is much of the reason for why the Islamic sense of justice is so brutal.
But the different in enforcement is only because of the social differences. Both religions are basically made for a government to be set up around them, but the social system in the West doesn't allow for that.

Essentially, it could just as easily be Christianity being the "problem" in the ME, and Islam doing just fine in the U.S. People don't seem to have a problem with Christianity.
People would definitely have a problem with Christianity if it became united with the state.

You're right that the social system is to blame, but the values of the social system are connected to Islam.

Your first statement refutes the second.

If any religion merged with the state is a problem, how is Islam itself a problem? Isn't it the politicians who use and abuse Islam to their own ends?

I can see how it looks like I'm contradicting myself, but I meant it more like...  any religion would be a problem united with the state.

Because Islam is united with the states of many ME countries, it becomes a problem.  But yes, it's not purely the fault of Islam itself.

I can't see how it's Islam's fault at all.

I see it as assholes who have risen to the top on the back of Islam, and use the letter instead of the spirit of the law in the religion to maintain power and suppress their people.

It's not like this kind of thing has never happened before, and it certainly doesn't require religion. Religion just makes it a little easier to control the weak-minded, taking the place of propaganda.

Very good point here. Any time religion and state mix it leads to trouble. Even in Ireland for many years the lines between Church and State were blurry and the abuse of power was atrocious, the Catholic Church basically became the ministry of education and hundreds of sex abuse cases came about. If you add a young, passionate and in many cases misinterpreted faith like Islam to the mix the potential dangers are multiplied.

Religion and State should never mix. It just doesn't work, religion should be a choice.

Ok, I just did an experiment to support my theory and ran over the neighbors cat with my SUV.  The good news is that the cats arms were fine, the bad news is that the cat itself expoded like a bottle of sprite with mentos in it.

I think it is safe to say that kids arm is fine.

We don't actually get to see the video play properly so I don't think the veracity of the clip can be guaranteed, they might have been doing a photoshoot for a human rights campaign. This has probably been faked as a piece of propaganda to further the cause of the anti-Islam, right wing movement in the US.

...I don't really believe this, I'm just using the same argument used by many pro-Israel people on this forum whenever a video comes out against the Israelis.
