Germany started well in both halves, then totally tailed off.

Well done Spain, a deserved win.

All the Liverpool fans in their Torres T-shirts went apeshit when Torres scored

I'm glad Spain one, they deserved it the most. Too bad Villa couldn't play in the final though, if he was Spain would've won 2-3 nil, for sure. Funny how he still wins the Golden Boot with 4 goals, all in his first two games I think

I feel sorry for Ballack though, this season. He has finished second best in 4 out of the 5 things he was competing for, with the fifth being even less than 2nd place/silver (FA Cup)

Carling Cup - Lost Final
Premiership - Second Place
Champions League - Lost Final
Euro 2008 - Lost Final

All silver medals!

True, the Germans played like shit. But 5-0, come on, Torres goal was the most stupid goal in the whole Euro. And other than that Spain just didnt score, even at 100% (Senna, Ramos for example). It wasnt a great game of both teams at all.

Well done SPAIN deserved winners, I don't think Germany deserved to be there but tournaments don't lie.  Ballack deserved to be there and maybe Frings, maybe Lahm other than that it was a fairly average German team who I watched in Cardiff when they beat Wales in the group stages of qualifying.  Germany's let down was the defence an area where you usually know they will be well organised.  Well they wern't, too many gaps were left between the two CB's and they were all pushing up at differen't times when trying to set off side traps.  I'm not on about last night but the last month, last nights goal can be used as an example of this though.  Lahm and Lehman both hesitating and Torres wanting it more.  Ballack carried the team IMO.  Its easy to critacise Germany now they are out as runner up but lets remember this country has reached 13 major finals in the time England have reached none.  Thats the standard they set themselves over the years.  Other than Lehman it looks a young team and you just know they will be back, better, stronger and more organised.  I cant remember who Wales have in their WC qualifying group but I hope it isn't this lot.  Congrats to GERMANY for reaching the final when they havent played the prettiest football thats the quality of their country.

Well done SPAIN gutted im not there.  My other Dad rang me last night as soon as he laned in Heathrow "Whats the score, whats the score".  He had just come back from a week in his other house in Gaucin, Southern Spain.  "The place would of been going nuts", "Turn round, go back" I added.  He came home a day early.  This country is as passionate about there football as any other.  I know they have a go at hockey but other than football, Bull fighting, Golf and Tennis and F1 they don't really do much else other than drink, fish and dance.  They have waited till '64 for this and I bet wether your in the tourist area's or high in the mountains the place is waking up to a hangover this morning.  They deserved it, they attacked, they were solid in defence, they showed no fear or nerves and played fair aswell.  They could have had so many more than just the 1 goal and ifthey had won 4/5-0 it wouldnt of been a freak/fluke.  Well done to their coach, his last game as he approaches his 70th birthday, poor old fella probably thought "This is it...." when the team started throwing him up in the air but fair play to him they put his back to earth and he got in the middle of them and started dancing.

Spain have the player of the tourney for me "Senna".  This fella does the donkey work, you can compare him to Viera or Keane when France, Arsenal or Man Utd have been successful.  The "Donkeys" (as often called due to the hard work) of any successful team rarely get a mention, the credit goes to the flair team but every winning team has an engine and this is what Senna is, oh, he can play a bit aswell.  Top scorer and imo top player again goes to Spain.

Final congrats go to the two hosts for giving us an excellent tourney.  They cant do feck all about the weather but they can do something about putting on a show, the last month has looked fantastic and last night did aswell.  Im gutted England wern't there as it feels empty over here in the UK but It's nice to think at least England Fans wont be dragging the country into the mud (remember its not even my country, I'm Welsh) but when abroad and from the UK they class you the same, who can blame them?  Next tourney is Poland and Ukraine but UEFA going to pull the plug on Ukraine from what I heard last night.

I'm going to miss the football now but it means the transfer gossiping really heats up "Will he, Won't he?" and so on.

In a months time Marco van Basten brings his AJAX side to Cardiff for a pre season friendly and thats when it all starts again for me.  No chance of a proper break from it all as I'm there working at the moment.  Thats the last action of the season as far as I'm concerned.  I hope the German fans felt as priviledged and proud to reach a final and loose rather than feel let down, dejected and gutted.  It's great to be there in the last game you can only ever have the 1 winner and last night wasn't your turn.

SPAIN - EURO 2008 WINNERS - CONGRATULATIONS

Also 27, you forgot to give Schweinstieger a mention - possibly the only reason Germany made it through the semi's!

Well I dunno Ted!  I did think about him but bottled it due to the spelling of his name, not only that I was running out of time and didnt want to call him "Bastien".  He got the longest name at the tournament?  He was good but not as good as Ballack I thought.  Arshavin was better than Schweinstieger, I think Nehat was aswell.

When I took the family to watch WALES V GERMANY at the Millenium last year in part of the qualifying groups I was gobsmacked at how much everything went through him.  Lehman would roll the ball out from the back and after at least 1 pass Schweinstieger got hold of it, he would pass it on and move and then they would look for him again.  He played a more central role then and had a huge effect on the game, setting up 2 out of 3 I think.  He basically did the Ballack roll.  The only other time I have ever seen this at any live football match was Argentina and Veron.  Based on that alone I think he had a "Quiet" tournament.  Having said that if I was Fergie I would sell Ronaldo for £50m and pay £25m for Schweinstieger as I dont think the gap between them both is that much.

As I thought, and as I proved to all you people who thought Fabregas was better, or Senna was better :
Xavi gets named best player of the tournament
Why he is awesome, and why it was a mistake to sub him in games

11.44KM covered in the game, more than anyone else, and 62 passes with 94% completion, whilst receiving the ball 53 times from his teammates during the game - double the amount that Marcos Senna got.

That is precisely why he never gets dropped from the Spain team or Barcelona, he is a priceless midfielder.

I do and would of gone with Senna but I hadn't seen any stats regarding distance covered of pass completion.

Who does he play for?  Is he the quiet man of the team?  Is he Senna'esque (ie Viera, Keane, Hargreves,)?

But then again Fabregas didn't get nealy the same amount of time as Xavi did so that's a flawd argument Zimmer ... Xavi was good in all the matches he played, Fabregas imho was brilliant in the games he played except for the last match and that is natural seeing as there isn't room for both Xavi and Fabregas on the pitch at the same time ...

Xavi deserves to be crowned player of the tournament without doubt but the competition would have been toighter if Fabregas had equal playing time, that's fo sure ...

Did you read my post, or just skim it?

He plays for Barcelona, first team midfielder along with Iniesta.

Varegg, I disagree, Fabregas has good spells in a match, but he never consistently passes well, controls well and sets up goals. He dips in and out of games with brilliance and shows off his flair only when he wants to; Xavis unbelievable consistency shows throughout each game and he always dominates the midfield.

Fabregas has more "flair" when he is playing well; but he rarely plays a full game on top form.

I skimmed it and spent even less time looking at the links.  Either way I'd much prefer to get the info from a poster rather than a webpage/link.

I guess he's a holding midfielder rather than attacking?

A suprise to me was not seeing Luis Garcia, I thought he was instrumental in Liverpool winning the champs league and Rafa booted him out.  How come he dosen't even make the squad?

Spain to me don't seem to pick the best players but they pick the best players to suit the system and you can't knock them.

Im so glad we have Germany on Oct 15th rather than Spain.   Please Mr Lurve, don't change your CB's.
