Some times parents really don't care and/or did the same things as kids...
But as a parent they cannot just let you do certain things, while they may not really care, it may not be something they want to encourage or condone... They may just have wanted to go "on record" as being disapproving.
But in the same way having the sex talk with them is kinda awkward for you, talking to you about it is possibly awkward to them.
